Job Description

SFGATE Community Engagement Program Manager (Full-time)

Your Impact:

Under the direction of SFGATE's Editor-in-Chief, the Community Engagement Program Manager will own growth, retention and engagement across SFGATE's community and membership programs, with the app and Friends of SFGATE as a central focus. In this dynamic role, the Community Engagement Program Manager will build the daily habits, live experiences and surprise-and-delight moments that turn casual readers into members - and members into superfans. This person will sit at the intersection of editorial, product, membership and events, and will be the newsroom's go-to advocate for how SFGATE builds community wherever it shows up - in the app, at live events, and everywhere in between.

What you'll do:
  • Drive growth and retention for SFGATE's app and Friends of SFGATE membership, and for community engagement more broadly
  • Plan and produce live events and experiences that build membership and deepen brand affinity
  • Test and launch new engagement tools and exclusive content across platforms
  • Oversee production schedules for app features such as maps and games, and work with outside partners on new offerings
  • Track engagement and growth metrics, translating what you learn into action across teams

Who you are:
  • You've grown something - an audience, a subscriber base, a community, a following - in media, product, membership, events or elsewhere entirely
  • A self-starter who's organized, self-guided and thrives juggling several things at once
  • Exceptionally creative and entrepreneurial: you see opportunities others miss and love building new things from scratch
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, service-minded approach to working with newsrooms
  • You've read SFGATE and follow us on social media to have an understanding of our brand and voice
