About the role:

Following the new Medium-Speed Engines (MSE) strategy there is an exciting opportunity for a Service Technician (Marine) to join the MaK Americas workshop team. As a Service Technician (Marine), the employee is responsible for providing technical service in the workshop on cylinder heads, injection equipment, turbocharger and other components on customer request. S/he is also responsible for analyzing, troubleshooting and collaborating with the respective functional department in identifying, resolving component related issues.

What you will do:
  • Repair, overhaul, assembly, disassembly, cleaning, analyzes, documentation, etc. of all components of the REParts program, of used engines and parts within the scope of Used Parts & Engines and of all orders delivered by customers with focus on cylinder heads, injection equipment and turbocharger
  • Assembly, analyzes, processing, documentation, etc. of new components such as cylinder heads, connecting rods, injection nozzles, etc.
  • Assembly and conversion work on diesel, dual fuel and gas engines within ESG upgrade solution matrix
  • Takes responsibility for coordinating the daily work on the shop floor
  • Train other colleagues in safety and quality
  • Packaging, preservation and transportation of finished components
  • If necessary, material tests by NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) to be carried out
  • Successful continuous participation in service-related training to expand develop existing know how
  • On board service operations on a small scale
  • Support field service engineers
  • Participation in 6Sigma projects

What you will have:
Mechanical/Machinery: Knowledge of machines and tools; ability to use knowledge of machinery or mechanical objects including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

Planning and Organizing: Knowledge of the process of planning and arranging tasks and resources; ability to plan and organize both time and resources to get things completed while structuring and maintaining work in a systematic and highly methodical way.

Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

Service Excellence: Knowledge of customer service concepts and techniques; ability to meet or exceed customer needs and expectations and provide excellent service in a direct or indirect manner.

Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools, and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application, or operation.

Total Productive Maintenance (TPM): Knowledge of total productive maintenance principles, methods, and processes; ability to maximize machinery effectiveness through active involvement of all supporting departments.

Top candidates will have:
  • Degree in related field or industrial or engine mechanic or mechatronics or many years of professional experience
  • Caterpillar Motoren / MaK or comparable engines, product and service knowledge/experience
  • Willingness to familiarize yourself with new technologies and ongoing training
  • Confident handling of drawings and BOM
  • Strong awareness of quality and safety
  • Safe handling of measuring equipment and tools
  • Nondestructive testing experience (Dye penetrant and MPI) or willing to learn
  • Good internal verbal and written communication
  • Willingness to travel
  • Minimum 2 - 4 years' service experience at large Diesel-, Gas or DF-Engines
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Teams, Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Be at least 21 years of age and have a clean driving record, which generally means:
  • No more than (2) moving violations within the last 12 months.
  • No more than three (3) moving violations in the past three (3) years


Summary Pay Range:

$81,370.00 - $122,060.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
