Senior Video Journalist to conceive, shoot, and edit original video content for Daily Mail's U.S. audience and global platforms.
About The RoleAs a
Senior Video Journalist, you will own stories end-to-end, from pitching original ideas and planning shoots through to filming, editing, and publishing polished video across DailyMail.com and social platforms including TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook.
This is a hands-on role for someone who is as comfortable behind the camera as they are in the edit bay, with strong news judgment and a sharp understanding of what makes video work both on and off platform.
- Initiate and develop original story ideas, translating them into engaging visual narratives.
- Plan and produce shoots in the field or studio, operating camera, audio, lighting, and other production equipment independently.
- Direct talent, contributors, and interview subjects where required.
- Edit short-, mid-, and long-form video packages with strong storytelling, pacing, and visual cohesion.
- Create content that lives natively across social media and the web, tailoring format, pacing, and tone to each platform's audience.
- Incorporate motion graphics and basic visual effects to enhance storytelling where relevant.
- Collaborate closely with reporters and editors to refine stories and ensure editorial accuracy.
- Write concise, engaging, and SEO-optimized video headlines and accompanying copy.
- Use audience analytics and performance data to evaluate video performance and inform future story decisions.
- Troubleshoot production challenges and adapt quickly to meet deadlines in a fast-paced news cycle.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing quick-turnaround news content with longer-range video productions.
- Uphold copyright, legal, and ethical standards across all video output.
- Work collaboratively with editorial, video, social, and other teams across the U.S. and global Daily Mail business.
About YouWe are looking for an experienced
SeniorVideo Journalist who combines strong news judgment and visual storytelling skills with hands-on production expertise and a clear understanding of digital and social video.
- 4+ years of experience shooting and editing digital and social video, preferably within a newsroom, digital media company, or production environment.
- Demonstrated ability to pitch, plan, shoot, and independently produce video-first stories from concept through publication.
- Hands-on experience with cameras, lighting, gimbals, microphones, and other production equipment, both in-studio and in the field.
- Strong understanding of visual storytelling and what makes compelling digital and social-first video.
- Excellent news judgment and a clear understanding of the Daily Mail voice, audience, and editorial approach.
- Proven ability to edit short-, mid-, and long-form content for digital and social platforms.
- Experience producing vertical video and tailoring content to the requirements and audiences of individual platforms.
- Strong writing skills, particularly for video headlines, social copy, and SEO-optimized supporting text.
- Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro; working knowledge of Adobe After Effects is a plus.
- Comfortable interpreting analytics dashboards and using audience and performance data to inform creative decisions.
- Adaptable, self-motivated, and able to switch priorities at short notice in a fast-paced news environment.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with reporters, editors, producers, and global teams.
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple deadlines while maintaining a high editorial and production standard.
- Ability to work on-site in New York four days per week.
