Full Job Description
The Senior Underwriter plays an important part in providing Brokers and Clients with services that enhance the positive image of the AXA XL brand. The role therefore requires a significant amount of interaction with Clients, Brokers and internal stakeholders. Working as part of the Toronto Underwriting Team, the role will be focused on securing new business opportunities and managing a renewal portfolio, while providing leading edge solutions for client needs.

What you'll be doing

What will your essential responsibilities include?
  • Manage and underwrite a profitable portfolio of new and renewal Canadian commercial Auto business, including Transportation risks, in line with AXA XL's underwriting appetite, authority levels, pricing discipline and governance standards.
  • Assess Auto risks through detailed review of exposure, fleet composition, loss experience, operations, driver controls, risk management practices and provincial regulatory considerations across Canada.
  • Determine appropriate terms, conditions, pricing and coverage structures for Canadian Auto accounts, ensuring alignment with underwriting guidelines, delegated authority, reinsurance requirements and portfolio profitability objectives.
  • Drive sustainable growth within the Canadian Auto portfolio by identifying profitable new business opportunities, retaining quality renewals and supporting strategic broker relationships in the Auto and Transportation market.
  • Partner with brokers, clients, claims, risk engineering, actuarial, legal and other internal stakeholders to deliver practical insurance solutions and high-quality service for complex Canadian Auto risks.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, market trends, loss activity and emerging Auto/Transportation exposures, using underwriting insight and data to support portfolio actions and continuous improvement.


You will report to the Underwriting Manager, Casualty.

The Canadian base salary range for this position is CAD 120,000 - 170,000.

Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual's skills, experience and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues' pay.
