Full Job Description
About the Role

Our team is seeking a Technical Program Manager for Foundations Engineering to drive critical initiatives across Data Engineering, Data Platform, Core Infrastructure, and Developer Platform. This role will involve working with cross-functional teams to establish the vision, strategy, and technical direction for our foundational engineering efforts. Programs in this space will require a strong technical understanding, cross-organization coordination, stakeholder management, and ownership of results.

You will report into the centralized Technical Program Management team in Engineering and must be located in either the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, or Seattle.
You're excited about this opportunity because...
  • Own Foundations Programs - Partner with Directors in Foundations Engineering and key engineering leaders to define vision, strategy, technical direction, and success metrics for foundational programs. Focus areas include quality, reliability, security, compliance, capacity planning, vendor and cost management, platform adoptions, and migrations.
  • Drive Platform Adoption - Own the end-to-end motion of getting product engineering teams onto new platform capabilities. This means building migration frameworks, managing long-tail onboarding, removing blockers, and tracking adoption with rigor.
  • Demonstrate Technical Depth - Develop a full understanding of our technical stack and interdependencies. Contribute meaningfully to design reviews, identify cross-cutting risks, and ensure solutions are scalable, reliable, and efficient. You don't need to write the code, but you need to understand what's being built and why.
  • Influence Without Authority - Foundations programs require alignment across dozens of product engineering teams that have their own roadmaps and priorities. You'll need to build trust, make compelling cases for platform investment, and navigate organizational complexity to get things done.
  • Nurture Stakeholders - Manage expectations from engineering leadership down to individual teams. Strong problem solving and negotiation skills are essential. You'll earn trust through competence, not just coordination.
  • Plan & Execute Optimizations - Drive Engineering OKR planning, develop execution and tracking frameworks, and provide visibility into resource allocation and prioritization across the Foundations portfolio.
  • Manage Process & Timelines - Maintain timely, succinct communication to leadership and across teams. Build lightweight processes that increase velocity - not processes for the sake of process. DoorDash moves fast; your job is to make it easier to move, not harder.
We're excited about you because...
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of recent experience as a Technical Program Manager at a technology company, ideally in an infrastructure or platform engineering organization.
  • Strong understanding of modern engineering practices, infrastructure systems, and developer tools. Experience with data engineering, cloud infrastructure, or developer platforms is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with engineering teams to implement data and infrastructure technologies and drive adoption across product and platform engineering teams.
  • Project planning and execution skills, including reviewing technical design documents, estimating, and scheduling.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with confidence, clarity, and focus.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to collaborate and build relationships across organizations, bridge gaps between teams, and successfully influence without authority.
  • Pragmatic and detailed approach with a focus on progress, not perfection.
