Insights from the teamYou will join a highly skilled vehicle engineering environment working with the development of next-generation vehicles.
In this role, you will be part of the development of
steering wheel and restraint systems, where mechanical engineering, safety, design, electronics and user experience come together.
You will work cross-functionally with engineering, design, safety, simulation and suppliers - with the opportunity to take real ownership of your product from concept through validation, launch and production.
Your mission and day-to-day tasksAs a Senior Steering Wheel Engineer, you will take ownership of steering wheel development throughout the complete product lifecycle.
You will:
- Lead the design and release of steering wheel systems from concept through production
- Develop system specifications, packaging concepts, drawings and engineering requirements
- Drive design validation and support manufacturing and production launch
- Work closely with design, NVH, UX, digital and interior engineering teams
- Balance performance, safety, quality, weight, cost and manufacturability
- Manage Tier 1 suppliers and drive technical development and program timing
- Support restraint system integration and collaborate with CAE teams to optimize designs
- Support crash testing, validation and homologation activities
- Perform technical investigations, failure analysis and root cause analysis
- Continue supporting and improving the product after start of production
Who are you?We believe you are an experienced automotive engineer with strong mechanical engineering fundamentals and a genuine interest in understanding how and why things work.
You have:
- 5+ years of automotive product development experience
- Experience within steering wheels, restraint systems, interior systems, automotive mechatronics or similar components
- Experience taking at least one product or vehicle program through the complete lifecycle from concept to production launch
- Strong understanding of mechanics of materials, material properties, kinematics and material selection
- Experience with failure analysis and root cause investigation
- Knowledge of metal forming, stamping and plastic injection molding
- Experience with GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis
- CAD experience and the ability to evaluate packaging, interfaces and engineering modifications
- Experience managing suppliers and driving technical deliverables
- Basic understanding of electronics and automotive communication/networking
- A BSc or higher in Mechanical Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline
Experience specifically within
steering wheel or restraint system development is highly valuable, but we are also interested in engineers with strong transferable experience from complex automotive interior or mechatronic systems.
Beyond your technical background, we are looking for someone who takes ownership. You should be able to explain the engineering challenge, the decisions you made,
your individual contribution and the measurable result.
