Description of the PositionWe are looking for a skilled and motivated
Database Developer to join our Data Platforms & Integrations team. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about building reliable data solutions, improving data quality, administering modern database environments, developing robust ETL/ELT processes, and helping teams access trusted information through reliable reporting and analytics solutions.
The
Database Developer will design, develop, administer, optimize, and support database, ETL/ELT, integration, and reporting solutions across the Foundation's enterprise systems.
This role supports on-premises and cloud database environments, enterprise data pipelines, reporting platforms, integrations, and API-based data services. The successful candidate will work with partners across CRM, Digital, Marketing Technology, Business Intelligence & Analytics, Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, and Enterprise Architecture to ensure data is secure, reliable, well-structured, governed, and available for operational and strategic use.
Key ResponsibilitiesDatabase Development and Administration- Develop, maintain, and optimize database objects, including tables, views, stored procedures, functions, indexes, and data models.
- Administer and support on-premises and cloud-based database environments, including Microsoft Azure data services.
- Support database provisioning, configuration, maintenance, monitoring, backup and recovery, performance tuning, security, and access management.
- Ensure database solutions are reliable, secure, scalable, performant, and aligned with enterprise architecture and data governance standards.
ETL/ELT, Data Integration, and Pipelines- Design, develop, test, deploy, monitor, and support ETL/ELT processes across enterprise systems.
- Develop and maintain data pipelines using SSIS, Azure Data Factory, and related integration technologies.
- Build automated data movement processes that support operational reporting, analytics, CRM, marketing technology, digital platforms, fundraising systems, and enterprise applications.
- Create reusable and maintainable integration patterns that reduce manual data handling, point-to-point solutions, inconsistent transformations, and operational risk.
- Support data extraction, transformation, cleansing, validation, reconciliation, loading, exception handling, and source-to-target mapping.
- Troubleshoot pipeline failures, data latency, transformation errors, data quality issues, and performance bottlenecks.
- Document ETL/ELT workflows, data mappings, transformation rules, dependencies, and support procedures.
Reporting and Analytics Enablement- Develop, maintain, and optimize operational, analytical, and management reports using SSRS, Power BI, Tableau, and related tools.
- Translate business reporting needs into accurate, secure, user-friendly reports, dashboards, paginated reports, datasets, and extracts.
- Support report data models, semantic layers, stored procedures, queries, refresh schedules, subscriptions, and access permissions.
- Troubleshoot report performance, data accuracy, refresh, visualization, and user access issues.
- Promote reporting standards that support data quality, consistency, security, accessibility, and maintainability.
Data Quality, Governance, Security, and Collaboration- Partner with CRM, Data Governance, BI, Cybersecurity, and Infrastructure teams to support data quality, lineage, privacy, security, and system-of-record integrity.
- Ensure database, ETL/ELT, reporting, and integration solutions comply with privacy, security, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor and improve database performance, pipeline reliability, report performance, throughput, refresh schedules, and data quality.
- Work with delivery squads, project teams, vendors, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver practical, well-documented solutions.
- Collaborate with teams supporting CRM and Salesforce platform initiatives where data integrations, reporting, or platform data structures are involved.
QualificationsWhile we know that for any job posting no one candidate will possess the qualifications being sought in equal measure, below is an outline of the qualifications we believe are important for a candidate to bring to the position or for the successful candidate to develop while in the role:
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in database development, database administration, ETL/ELT development, data integration, data engineering, reporting, or a related technical role.
- Strong SQL development skills, including stored procedures, views, indexing, query optimization, performance tuning, and data modelling.
- Hands-on experience designing, developing, testing, deploying, monitoring, and supporting ETL/ELT processes.
- Experience with SSIS and Azure Data Factory is strongly preferred.
- Experience developing and supporting data pipelines, source-to-target mappings, transformation logic, data cleansing, validation, reconciliation, exception handling, and automated data loads.
- Experience developing reports, dashboards, paginated reports, datasets, extracts, or reporting solutions using SSRS, Power BI, and/or Tableau.
- Experience administering on-premises and cloud-based database environments, including backup and recovery, monitoring, security, access management, maintenance, and optimization.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure services, including Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure Data Factory, Azure Storage, Azure Synapse Analytics, or related Azure data and integration services.
- Familiarity with APIs, integration platforms, scheduled data loads, cloud-based data movement, enterprise data platforms, data warehouses, data marts, data quality, and data governance.
- Familiarity with CRM systems, fundraising platforms, marketing technology, analytics platforms, or non-profit environments is considered an asset.
- Salesforce platform experience is considered a strong asset.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, documentation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Commitment to building secure, reliable, scalable, well-documented, and maintainable database, ETL/ELT, reporting, and integration solutions.

Total Compensation PackageExpected Hiring Salary Range: $82,064 - 102,582; with the ability to progress to a maximum of $117,970 with demonstrated experience and proficiency. To ensure fair and equitable pay at SickKids Foundation, placement on the salary range will be based on your years of experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the Analyst, People Systems and Analytics.
