Job Summary:

Senior Software Engineer – Prime Product eCommerce

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the design, development, and modernization of customer-facing digital platforms that power Shop, Prime Online, Cat.com, and other enterprise commerce experiences. This role combines hands-on engineering, technical leadership, modern web development, cloud architecture, AI-assisted engineering, and specification-driven development practices.

What You Will Do:

  • Design, develop, and support scalable web applications, APIs, and integrations.

  • Lead technical solution design and architecture decisions across complex initiatives.

  • Develop modern digital experiences using Next.js, React, TypeScript, and cloud-native technologies.

  • Implement resilient integrations with enterprise platforms including Dealer ERP, DLS, Helios, ONE, and other business systems.

  • Drive engineering excellence through code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, and DevOps practices.

  • Collaborate closely with Product Owners, UX, Architecture, and business stakeholders to deliver customer-focused solutions.

Application Design, Architecture: Knowledge of application design and architecture principles and practices; ability to utilize application design methodologies, tools, and techniques to convert business requirements and logical models into a technical application design.
Systems Software Infrastructure: Knowledge of computer architecture and system software interaction; ability to design and build a fundamental architecture of operating systems, database management systems, communications protocols, compilers and other development tools.
Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.

Considerations For Top Candidates:

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale applications.

  • Strong experience with React, Next.js, TypeScript, Node.js, REST APIs, and modern web development frameworks.

  • Experience deploying and supporting applications on Vercel and/or cloud platforms such as AWS.

  • Strong understanding of microservices, API-first design, event-driven architecture, Micro Frontends (MFE), and Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) patterns.

  • Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, performance optimization, monitoring, and observability.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to lead technical discussions and decisions.

AI & Specification-Driven Development

  • Demonstrated experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, or similar platforms.

  • Ability to leverage AI throughout the software development lifecycle, including design, coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and code reviews.

  • Experience with Specification-Driven Development (SDD), translating business requirements into detailed technical specifications and implementation plans.

  • Ability to create specifications that align requirements, architecture, development, testing, and deployment activities.

  • Strong understanding of responsible AI usage, validation of AI-generated code, and engineering governance practices.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience headless CMS, or composable architecture platforms.

  • Composable commerce and digital customer experience platforms.

  • Feature flagging and progressive rollout technologies such as LaunchDarkly.

  • Contract testing, MSW, Playwright, Cypress, Pact, and modern QA automation practices.

  • Experience leading platform modernization and cloud transformation initiatives.

  • Leads adoption of modern engineering practices including AI-assisted development and specification-driven engineering.

Summary Pay Range:

$112,710.00 - $169,060.00
