Job Description:

Hitachi Rail STS USA, Inc., headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA, seeks a Senior Signaling Design Engineer to work in unanticipated locations throughout the United States.

The employee will have to relocate, but travel is not required from any particular location.

Accountabilities

The Senior Signaling Design Engineer will deliver hardware and functional signaling design for medium signaling project in accordance with industry and company standards, guidelines, and processes.

Specific duties include:

(1) reviewing hardware and functional signaling design requirements allocation and gap analysis and demonstrating the compliance of design documents by the traceability;

(2) ensuring the delivery of hardware and functional signaling design (schemes, specification documents, test reports, etc.) compliant to project requirements, budget and schedule and to industry standards, company guidelines and processes;

(3) ensuring the delivery of hardware and functional signaling design documentation (including system requirements and architecture, signaling rules, interface control, scheme plans, control tables, block design, and analyses), training support documents to improve knowledge of industry standards (e.g., CENELEC, AREMA, IEEE, IPC, etc.) and company standard solutions;

(4) ensuring effective interfacing and cross collaboration on signaling design related matters with other company functions involved in the project as well as gathering and sharing reviews to detect design errors or process or tool inefficiencies and to ensure the identification and implementation of corrective and improvement actions;

(5) effectively executing analysis sequences to address the feedback from validation and site tests; executing verification activities on issued documents and in accordance with the V&V Plan and providing with a technical interface for Hardware and Functional design matters for other company's departments.

This position is for a roving employee who will work in unanticipated locations throughout the United States. The employee will have to relocate, but travel is not required from any particular location.

Required Skills/ Knowledge

Must have experience with:

(1) signaling rules, interfaces, control tables and systems including European centralized and North American decentralized architectures;

(2) reviewing, analyzing, and designing the conventional relay-, microprocessor/computer-based and hybrid signaling systems, and communication-based train control systems in accordance with established signaling design principles;

(3) microprocessor devices (particularly MicroLok II) and digital application logic design; signaling application logic developing, debugging, and troubleshooting by using MicroLok II Development System;

(4) application logic simulation activities using MicroLok Simulator, Easy Rail and VitalSim products; and

(5) developing factory and field test procedures and performing factory and on-site test setup, including system integration testing with Back Office, PTC and other signaling subsystems for European and North America signaling projects.

Education/Qualifications

Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Information Technology plus five years of experience in a signaling design and delivery position in or for the railway industry required.

In accordance with the DOT's FRA and FTA programs, Hitachi's substance screening program tests pre-employment candidates and current employees, as required for safety-sensitive positions.
