Our Transportation engineering department is looking to fill a new position of a
Senior Engineer, Group Leader - Transportation Planning to work out of our
Guelph office. The successful candidate will have experience conducting and/or overseeing a range of transportation planning and traffic engineering assignments, including traffic impact studies, development and site plan reviews, parking studies, transportation master plans, functional design and planning, traffic operations and intersection capacity analyses, speed limit and road safety reviews, traffic signal warrant and timing analyses, and Municipal Class Environmental Assessments.
This is a unique opportunity to help establish and grow our transportation planning and traffic engineering presence in the Guelph area. During the initial stages of growth, the successful candidate will take a hands-on role in all aspects of project delivery, including project management, technical analysis, and report preparation, with support from staff in our other offices. As the local team expands, the position will evolve to place greater emphasis on project oversight, technical review, staff mentorship, and team leadership. The successful candidate will also play a key role in business development by strengthening relationships with existing and prospective clients, securing new work, and building a strong local team to support the continued growth of our Guelph operations.
Key Responsibilities: - Lead business development in Guelph and the surrounding area by identifying opportunities, preparing proposals, developing client relationships, and securing new work.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop transportation staff as the local team grows.
- Lead transportation planning and traffic engineering projects from proposal development through to final delivery, including management of scope, schedule, budget, quality, and client expectations.
- Provide technical guidance, quality assurance, and senior review of transportation planning and traffic engineering deliverables.
- Collect and analyze transportation, traffic, collision, parking, and land-use data, and undertake traffic forecasting and network analysis using appropriate analysis and modelling software.
- Assess transportation infrastructure and operational requirements associated with development applications and municipal planning initiatives.
- Prepare and review technical reports, memoranda, presentations, work plans, budgets, schedules, and proposals.
- Coordinate internal staff, other Tatham departments, subconsultants, and external partners.
- Liaise with clients, agencies, developers, planning authorities, and other stakeholders, and lead or participate in meetings, public consultation activities, and technical presentations.
Key Position Requirements: - Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- Licensed as a Professional Engineer in Ontario.
- A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in transportation planning and traffic engineering.
- Broad technical knowledge of traffic operations, transportation planning, development-related transportation studies, road safety, and transportation modelling and analysis.
- Demonstrated success in project management, business development, client relationship management, and technical leadership.
- Experience leading, mentoring, and developing technical staff and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Established relationships within the Guelph and surrounding municipal and development communities would be considered an asset.
- Proficiency with relevant transportation analysis and modelling software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Valid Ontario driver's licence and access to reliable transportation.

Expected Hiring Range for This Position$115,000 to $165,000
Compensation will reflect the unique skills and experience each candidate brings to the role. The posted range serves as a general guideline, and final offers may vary.
