As part of this project, we are currently looking for a Senior Safety Engineer to join our team.
What You Will Do:- Lead safety engineering and systems assurance activities throughout design, integration, testing, and commissioning phases.
- Develop, maintain, and manage hazard logs, ensuring risks are identified, assessed, mitigated, and tracked to closure.
- Conduct and facilitate safety analyses, hazard identification workshops, and risk assessments with project stakeholders.
- Support the development and maintenance of safety cases demonstrating compliance with project and regulatory requirements.
- Review engineering designs, technical submissions, and change requests to verify safety requirements are effectively incorporated.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including signaling, communications, traction power, track, stations, and rolling stock disciplines.
- Support systems integration, verification, validation, testing, and commissioning activities from a safety assurance perspective.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards, client requirements, contractual obligations, and industry best practices.
- Coordinate with project partners, consultants, contractors, operators, and regulatory authorities on safety-related matters.
- Support safety audits, independent assessments, regulatory reviews, and project safety approvals.
- Provide technical guidance on safety risks, mitigations, and safety assurance strategies.
- Promote a strong safety culture and continuous improvement across the project team.
Experience You Will Bring:- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Transportation, or a related discipline).
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario, or eligibility to obtain registration, is considered an asset.
- 8+ years of experience in safety engineering, systems assurance, systems engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience supporting complex rail, subway, LRT, transit, transportation, or major infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated experience developing and managing hazard logs and safety risk management processes.
- Strong knowledge of system safety principles, hazard analysis methodologies, and risk assessment techniques.
- Experience working through design, integration, testing, commissioning, and operational readiness phases of projects.
- Familiarity with safety and railway industry standards such as EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129, IEC 61508, or equivalent frameworks.
- Experience supporting safety cases, verification and validation activities, and regulatory compliance programs.
- Proven ability to work effectively with clients, contractors, consultants, and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical report writing skills.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
- Proficient use of DOORS NG.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to mentor junior engineers and influence safety-focused decision-making.
Compensation: $125,000 - $144,000 annually. The listed salary range reflects potential base pay and considers factors such as experience, education, and training. Each candidate is evaluated individually and offers toward the higher end may be extended to those with exceptional qualifications.
