Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Senior Vehicle Electrical Engineer to join ourNorth American Infrastructure division in Vehicle Electrical group in our Los Angeles, CA office.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 10 years of professional experience in the rail vehicle electrical systems (Streetcars, LRVs, Heavy Rail Transit Cars, Commuter Cars, Locomotives) design and maintenance. Transit Authority engineering and maintenance experience is a plus. Must have working knowledge of core electrical engineering concepts (analog/digital circuit design, power engineering, networking/telecommunications, AC/DC motor theory, control systems, and software development EMI/EMC). Familiarity with the APTA, FRA, IEEE, IEC/EN, NFPA, and other industry standards related to rail vehicle design is expected. Must possess excellent analytical, written and oral communication skills, and work well in a team. PE registration is desirable but not required. Both domestic and foreign travel is required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop technical specifications and conceptual designs for the new and upgraded rail vehicles and the on-board systems.
  • Participate in the design review meetings and technical working sessions with the carbuilders and equipment suppliers.
  • Review electrical and electro-mechanical designs, prepare detailed descriptions of review findings.
  • Direct and/or participate in the new equipment qualification efforts at supplier facilities and on the trains including functional testing, electrical performance, environmental, and electromagnetic compatibility.
  • Prepare and/or review rail vehicle and vehicle on-board systems test procedures.
  • Hands-on engineering work with the rail transit vehicles, including testing, investigations of equipment malfunctions, and condition assessments.
  • Mentor and educate junior engineers

Base Compensation: $210,000 - $230,000 (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
