Job Description

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for leading cross-functional teams to successfully deliver complex product development and sustaining engineering projects within the medical device industry. This role partners with engineering, quality, regulatory, marketing, operations, and external suppliers to define project scope, develop integrated plans, manage timelines and budgets, mitigate risks, and drive execution from concept through commercialization.

The Senior Project Manager serves as a key leader in guiding project teams through BD's product development and design control processes while ensuring alignment with business objectives, stakeholder expectations, regulatory requirements, and portfolio priorities. This position is responsible for project governance, management reporting, resource planning, and communication with functional and executive leadership.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Lead cross-functional teams in the planning and execution of new product development, sustaining engineering, remediation, and strategic business initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain integrated project plans, schedules, budgets, resource forecasts, and project governance documentation.
  • Drive project execution by proactively identifying, managing, and escalating risks, issues, dependencies, and critical decisions.
  • Facilitate project team meetings and ensure clear ownership, accountability, and follow-through on action items.
  • Monitor project performance against scope, schedule, budget, quality, and business objectives.
  • Partner with functional leaders to forecast and manage resource requirements across project phases.
  • Prepare and deliver project status updates, executive presentations, and portfolio reporting for leadership and governance reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with BD design control processes, regulatory requirements, quality systems, and documentation standards.
  • Collaborate with external suppliers and development partners to manage deliverables, timelines, and project outcomes.
  • Maintain project information within project management systems, including MS Project, OnePlan, SharePoint, and other portfolio management tools.
  • Support the development and execution of risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans.
  • Foster effective collaboration across geographically dispersed teams, including global partners and manufacturing sites.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Life Sciences, or related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of project management experience leading cross-functional projects.
  • Demonstrated success leading medical device (or other regulated industry) product development projects from concept through commercialization.
  • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, project governance, and product development lifecycle processes.
  • Experience managing project budgets, schedules, resources, risks, and stakeholder communications.
  • Experience working with external suppliers, contract manufacturers, and development partners.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Project and project scheduling methodologies.
  • Strong communication, presentation, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize competing objectives and drive execution in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn complex technical concepts and effectively communicate them to diverse audiences.


Desired:

  • 3+ years of experience within the medical device, life sciences, or regulated healthcare industry.
  • Experience working within a formal Project Management Office (PMO) environment.
  • Experience managing projects with budgets exceeding $1M.
  • Knowledge of FDA, ISO 13485, and design control requirements.
  • PMP certification or equivalent project management certification.
  • Experience working with global and geographically diverse teams.
  • Spanish language proficiency is a plus.
  • Strong business and financial acumen with the ability to evaluate project tradeoffs and support strategic decision-making.
