Summary

Senior Project Engineers oversee large, complex engineering projects and portfolios, ensuring compliance with technical, safety, cost, schedule, and regulatory requirements. They provide technical leadership, manage project teams, coordinate multidisciplinary stakeholders, and support NYPA's strategic objectives.

NYPA's Project Engineering work spans multiple specializations, including construction management, transmission corridor rebuilds, high-voltage substation modernization, renewable generation and storage integration, customer-energy and electrification programs, and major capital/Propel project delivery. Senior Project Engineers in this pool have opportunities to lead transformative, statewide infrastructure initiatives that directly advance NYPA's clean-energy mission and strengthen the resilience of New York's electric grid.

This posting allows NYPA to accept applications year-round and match candidates to opportunities as they become available. Candidates level and based on technical competencies, experience level, and interest areas. Some roles require a New York State PE license due to the level of technical and regulatory responsibility involved, while others do not.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Energy Engineering or related field required; Master's preferred.
  • 7-10+ years of engineering project or construction management experience depending on role level.
  • New York State PE license required in some roles due to the level of technical and regulatory responsibility involved

For Project Mgmt. one or more of the following preferred:
  • New York State Professional Engineer (PE) License or ability to obtain within 2 years.
  • Project or Program Management Professional certification or ability to obtain within 2 years.
  • Design Build Institute of America certification or ability to obtain within 2 years.
  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM)
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification


Physical Requirements

  • Approximately 25% travel primarily within NY State
  • Willingness to enter confined spaces and climb/scale power system apparatuses.
  • Ability to travel to vendor facilities (worldwide) to support construction activities and to inspect equipment fabrication and commissioning for length of time needed.
  • Availability to work outside of normal business hours (including weekends) when project demands.

The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The estimated salary range for this position is: $146,000 - $182,000 . The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates' relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
