Position Title: Senior Project Accountant

Location: San Diego, CA - Hybrid (in office Wednesdays and quarterly meetings)

Assignment Type: Permanent Hire

Compensation: $105,000 - $110,300 / year + 10% bonus

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM

Job Description:

Our client is seeking a Senior Project Accountant to support accounting and financial activities related to multiple development projects. This position will focus heavily on construction and project accounting, including job costs, accounts payable, general ledger activity, reconciliations, cash management, and construction draws.

The Senior Project Accountant will work closely with internal teams as well as external partners, including auditors, lenders, contractors, and property management teams. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable working independently to research issues, identify solutions, and follow projects through to completion.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversee job cost accounting and accounts payable activities for multiple development projects.
  • Maintain general ledgers for project-related entities, including journal entries and capitalization of costs.
  • Reconcile intercompany accounts and project-level balances.
  • Prepare and review trial balance reconciliations.
  • Monitor and analyze project cash balances and support cash management activities.
  • Prepare and support construction draws, funding requests, and project disbursements.
  • Coordinate with auditors and assist with year-end close and audit-related requests.
  • Support project reporting and compliance requirements.
  • Work with lenders, contractors, auditors, and internal teams to resolve accounting and project-related questions.
  • Review project accounting work and provide guidance to other accounting team members.
  • Help document and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Utilize Excel for reconciliations, reporting, loan draw schedules, and other project accounting needs.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience.
  • Construction accounting experience required.
  • Strong understanding of the construction lifecycle and project accounting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to research issues and determine appropriate solutions.
  • Proficiency with Excel, including formulas such as SUMIF and VLOOKUP; Pivot Table experience is a plus.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with strong follow-through.
  • Self-starter who can work independently and take ownership of responsibilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with Yardi and/or MIP/Abila is preferred.
  • Experience in real estate or affordable housing is a plus.
