Location: Yorba Linda, CA - On-site

Assignment Type: Permanent Hire

Compensation: $85,000 - $110,000 / year

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM

Job Description:

A growing, privately held company is seeking a Project Accountant to join its finance and accounting team. This is a newly created position offering significant opportunity for growth and increased involvement in financial planning and analysis.

The Project Accountant will be responsible for project accounting, work-in-progress (WIP) reconciliation, job costing, financial reporting, and partnering with operational teams to ensure accurate project financials. This position will also have the opportunity to become involved in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage monthly WIP reconciliations and related accounting adjustments for active projects.
  • Review project costs, billings, estimated costs to complete, and project profitability.
  • Perform job cost variance analysis by project and cost category.
  • Research and resolve discrepancies between project information and the general ledger.
  • Support month-end close through WIP roll-forwards, project profitability analysis, and related reporting.
  • Monitor project margins and identify trends, risks, and changes in profitability.
  • Assist with purchase requests, purchase orders, change orders, and vendor coordination.
  • Maintain supporting schedules for projects and fixed assets.
  • Assist with allocating shared costs across entities and projects.
  • Support inventory, production cost, and cost variance analysis.
  • Develop and maintain financial reports and dashboards to track key performance indicators.
  • Partner with Accounting, Project Management, and Finance teams to improve job costing and reporting processes.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and forward-looking financial analysis.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting.
  • Support ERP system enhancements and integrations as needed.

Qualifications:
  • 3-5+ years of project accounting, construction accounting, or related accounting experience.
  • Strong experience with WIP reconciliation and job costing.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong Excel skills, including financial analysis and modeling.
  • Experience working with an ERP or project accounting system.
  • Understanding of GAAP and project-based accounting.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Self-starter who takes ownership and follows through on responsibilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with accounting, finance, and operational teams.
  • Comfortable working in a professional environment with changing priorities.
  • Interest in expanding beyond project accounting into budgeting, forecasting, and FP&A is a plus.
