Job Title: Senior Manager, Software EngineeringJob Code: 44999Job Location: Greenville, TX On-SiteJob Schedule: 9/80 Off every other Friday, 1st Shift Job Description:The Senior Manager, Software Engineering leads software teams responsible for the research, design, development, integration, and test of complex software systems while serving as a key program execution leader for assigned efforts. This role combines people leadership with program-facing execution, agile delivery oversight, bid and forecast planning, and cross-functional coordination to deliver software within cost, schedule, and technical constraints. The position grows high-performing teams, shapes operational strategy, and represents software engineering with internal and external stakeholders across the life cycle of software-intensive programs.
Essential Functions:- Lead software engineering teams in the design, development, integration, and test of software solutions supporting complex hardware and mission applications.
- Represent software engineering in engagements with program leadership and key stakeholders to align priorities, plans, and execution decisions.
- Maintain proactive communication across software and program leadership, keeping department managers, product owners, and stakeholders informed of emerging issues, upcoming changes, bid activity, and execution impacts to ensure alignment and avoid surprises.
- Own execution of software-intensive efforts by driving schedules, resolving issues, and coordinating work across teams to meet program milestones.
- Guide agile delivery activities by managing work priorities, supporting Program Increment planning, and addressing team dependencies and capacity needs.
- Lead planning and resourcing activities needed to support program and departmental objectives, including estimates, forecasts, and workforce allocation.
- Prepare and deliver software execution updates, risk assessments, forecasts, and planning inputs for reviews, proposals, and leadership forums.
- Work across engineering disciplines to shape requirements, evaluate interfaces, and support technical approaches that meet system performance needs.
- Lead the growth and effectiveness of the software organization through hiring, employee development, performance management, and succession planning.
- Advance software execution through process improvement, lessons learned, and adoption of effective engineering practices and technologies.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information security clearance.
Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics field with a minimum of 12 years of prior related experience; graduate degree with a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience; or a minimum of 16 years of prior related experience in lieu of a degree.
- Experience leading software-related work within a complex product development environment.
- Experience with formal people leadership responsibilities in a supervisor, manager, or similar role.
- Working knowledge of the software development life cycle, including requirements, design, implementation, integration, test, estimation, and technical documentation.
- Experience operating within cost, schedule, and technical constraints in coordination with program and engineering stakeholders.
- Experience communicating technical and execution matters clearly to senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders.
Preferred Additional Skills:- Experience serving in software execution leadership roles such as Program Execution Lead, Product Owner, Scrum Master, section leader, or program manager on a software-intensive program.
- Active Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information security clearance.
- Experience leading agile execution activities, including Program Increment planning, backlog prioritization, dependency coordination, and sprint delivery oversight.
- Experience supporting program business rhythms, including engineering forecasts, proposal activities, basis of estimate development, earned value management inputs, and leadership reviews.
- Experience developing subordinate leaders, including section leaders or other team leads, within a multi-team engineering organization.
- Experience leading teams that support multiple products or subsystems with differing mission objectives, technical stacks, and operational users.
- Working knowledge of integrating and sustaining third-party software within secure, operationally deployed systems.
- Working knowledge of distributed systems supporting command and control messaging, streaming audio, file transfer, and data dissemination across airborne, ground, and external networked environments.
- Working knowledge of adjacent disciplines such as systems engineering, hardware engineering, configuration management, mission assurance, operations, or program management.
- Working knowledge of software development and deployment environments on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, with familiarity in Windows Server environments.
- Working knowledge of technologies spanning user interfaces, web applications, backend services, scripting, virtual machines, and containerized deployments.
- Working knowledge of development languages used across the organization, including C, C++, Java, JavaScript, Bash, Perl, and Python.
