Job Description

Lead a team of software engineers with strong SRE backgrounds responsible for building, operating, and evolving the our platforms. This role owns execution and delivery across platform components, service reliability, API and integration health, observability, automation, upgrade safety, and resilience patterns used by multiple engineering teams.

The manager will set technical direction, drive accountability for reliability, performance, cost, and operational excellence, and partner across teams to resolve complex issues and improve the developer experience. This role requires a leader who can grow engineers, manage priorities, influence stakeholders, and turn production pain points into durable platform improvements.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Platform Software Development:
  • Lead multiple platform teams to standardize middleware patterns and client libraries used by several consumer teams.
  • Establish group-level guardrails for APIs/SDKs, deprecation strategies, and upgrade playbooks; track adoption and risk.
  • Sponsor shared observability frameworks and capacity models across teams; review error-budget posture and corrective actions.

Software Development and Coding - Design, Testing, and Optimization:
  • Leads teams and provides technical recommendations and guidance in designing software solutions and identifying, analyzing and ensuring alignment with requirements.
  • Manages the execution of processes to develop and guide new software features and enhancements following design specifications, ensuring accessibility, and to develop documents to clarify software design and code.
  • Leads code and/or functional reviews to drive improvements across a project.
  • Leads and reviews teams to conduct debugging and troubleshooting to identify and fix software issues across multiple components or functional areas.
  • Provides teams guidance to implement software testing (e.g., functional and non-functional), quality assurance processes, software error logging, monitoring, and observability for effective debugging.
  • Utilizes an analytic approach to conduct performance profiling and optimization of coding.
  • Leads teams in troubleshooting and resolving issues related to application programming interface (API) functionality and integration.
  • Leads teams to implement API versioning, lifecycle, and interoperability strategies.

Software Architecture - Software System Structural Design:
  • Leads teams to design and develop software, systems, and services.
  • Acts as a role model to provide technical guidance and domain expertise in software architecture decisions and best practices.
  • Leads teams to conduct periodic reviews and ensures adherence to architectural framework(s) and internal development practices and standards.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to align and build software architecture with business and/or customer goals and priorities in focus.
  • Leads teams to implement performance optimization and scalability strategies in software design.
  • Impacts teams to conduct regular technology research and evaluation for architectural enhancements.

Issue/Defect Collaboration - Software Products Support:
  • Collaborates with stakeholders and external clients and/or partners to understand customer issues and align solutions.
  • Leads team(s) to provide technical guidance and appropriately prioritize support to customers regarding reported issues.
  • Acts as a role model for teams to advocate for customers' interests and suggests product enhancements based on feedback.
  • Develops, modifies, and executes policies to ensure customer satisfaction through timely resolution of issues and effective communication.
  • Leads teams through processes for handling customer issues and/or defects handling and directs them to training opportunities as needed.
  • Manages the investigation and troubleshooting of complex product maintenance issues to ensure customer agreement on short- and long-term solutions.

Practices and Standards Compliance - Security and Compliance:
  • Collaborates with teams and other stakeholders within and outside of group to establish, follow, and enforce documented security criteria, development industry best practices and processes, and coding standards.
  • Ensures clarity of teams' operational objectives for adherence to broad acceptance criteria.
  • Implements moderately complex secure software development practices requiring information gathering and analysis to prevent security vulnerabilities.

Development Operations - System Maintenance:
  • Leads teams in performing periodic maintenance and testing operations for systems that require upgrading or patching (e.g., for critical vulnerabilities).
  • Delegates assignments to teams to implement and evolve standard operating procedures (SOP) for development and for driving improvements, ensuring automation, testing, and debugging of systems to ensure service/product availability, health, support, and reliability.

  • Manages multiple medium- to large-scale projects or initiatives across teams, ensuring timelines, deliverables, and budgets when applicable are monitored and met. Provides direction to teams on project work, setting priorities, and aligning with business needs. Guides teams on adjusting plans to accommodate resource or timeline changes.

  • Drives cross-functional partnerships to align expectations and shared objectives across multiple teams. Coaches team members to develop strategic relationships with business leaders, stakeholders, and external partners to foster collaboration and long-term success. Promotes inclusivity by actively seeking and listening to diverse perspectives, ensuring others feel heard and respected.

Problem Solving:
  • Provides direction to multiple teams on addressing complex operational and/or technical issues as well as providing guidance on analyzing complex data and/or information to identify solutions. Reviews and provides insights into unresolved or critical issues, helping the team to identify potential solutions.

Continuous Learning:
  • Models engaging in continuous learning to deepen expertise and stay ahead of industry trends, integrating best practices into strategic planning. Leverages feedback to drive personal and team skill improvements. Identifies skill gaps across teams, and empowers team members to pursue learning and knowledge sharing opportunities that build their expertise in new areas and coaches them to apply learnings to advance the organization.

Continuous Improvement:
  • Drives team to collaborate on, develop, and implement ideas to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of processes, protocols, and workflows within and across teams, providing oversight. Guides team to adopt new ideas for alternative approaches and methods and encourages feedback for continued improvement.

Performance and Development:
  • Drives performance across teams by providing feedback and coaching in alignment with performance management processes, guidelines, and expectations. Discusses development goals with team members, shares opportunities to facilitate career development, and ensures individual goals are aligned with broader organizational goals. Develops and manages talent acquisition pipeline by leading candidate interviews, monitoring promotion eligibility, and/or orchestrating talent resources.

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $120,000 to $306,400 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle's differing products, industries and lines of business.
Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
