Full Job Description
EvenUp's Discovery Operations is a fully managed, AI-powered discovery service for personal injury litigation firms. Firms hand us their written discovery from interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admission, objections, medical chronologies, to case-analysis reporting, and we return a firm-ready, expert-reviewed work product on a guaranteed turnaround. Discovery combines EvenUp's AI infrastructure with an in-house team of legal and operational experts to take an entire, high-friction workflow off a firm's plate.

We're hiring a Senior Manager, Discovery Operations to build and run the team that delivers this service. This is a hybrid role: part subject-matter expert who sets and defends the legal quality bar for everything that goes out the door, and part operator who designs the workflows, staffing model, and metrics that let the team scale without breaking. You'll report to the VP, Operations, and be the single owner accountable for Discovery delivery quality, turnaround times, and team health.

You should take this role if you've practiced personal injury litigation with real Discovery chops, and you're equally energized by building the operating system around a service team as you are by drafting a sharp objection.

What You'll Do

Own the legal quality bar (Subject Matter Expert)
  • Serve as the in-house expert on discovery practice across PI jurisdictions: interrogatories, RFPs, RFAs, objections, meet-and-confer standards, and motions to compel.
  • Define and maintain the quality standards, templates, and playbooks the team drafts against, and personally review or spot-check output on complex or high-risk cases.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, and Data Science to translate discovery expertise into the systems that power the AI-assisted workflow. You'll be shaping what the model drafts, what a reviewer checks, and where human judgment has to sit.
  • Stay current on statutory and common-law changes affecting discovery nationwide, and update team guidance and client-facing SLAs accordingly.
  • Act as an escalation point for legally sensitive judgment calls. This includes jurisdiction-specific objection strategy, privilege issues, or edge cases the playbook doesn't cover.

Build and run the operation
  • Design the end-to-end delivery workflow: intake, drafting, QA/review, client sign-off, and service against turnaround guarantees (e.g., 20-25 day discovery cycles).
  • Build the staffing model for the delivery team - whether that means directly managing attorneys, paralegals, and reviewers, or standing up team leads/pods who manage day-to-day work while you set direction and hold the bar.
  • Own the metrics that matter, eg turnaround time, quality/error rate, client satisfaction, and throughput per FTE. You'll also be reporting these to leadership.
  • Identify and implement process improvements as volume scales, including where automation should take on more of the work and where human review should stay firmly in the loop.
  • Hire, coach, and develop the team; set a bar for both legal rigor and operational discipline.
  • Be the primary point of contact between the Discovery team and firm leadership/clients when escalations, edge cases, or account-level issues arise.
What We're Looking For
  • J.D. and active bar license in good standing in at least one U.S. state.
  • 7+ years of personal injury litigation experience, with substantial hands-on discovery work (drafting and defending written discovery, objections, motion practice around discovery disputes).
  • Prior experience managing people and/or leading a team or function. Whether as a direct manager, a practice group lead, or an operations lead in a legal or legal-services setting.
  • Comfort operating with metrics and SLAs. You think in terms of turnaround time, quality rate, and throughput, not just case-by-case judgment calls.
  • Working fluency with legal tech/AI-assisted drafting tools, and a clear point of view on where AI output needs human judgment layered on top.
  • Ability to translate legal nuance into clear, buildable guidance for non-lawyers (engineers, product managers, ops staff).
  • Genuine comfort with ambiguity. This is a new function inside a fast-growing company, and the playbook is only partly written.

  • A home office stipend.
  • 401(k) for US-based employees and RRSP for Canada-based employees.
  • Paid parental leave.
  • A local in-person meet-up program.
