Job DescriptionWhat is the opportunity?The Senior Manager, Controls Design & Implementation, is a business lead for 1st line of defense risk controls advisory, design and implementation within Commercial Banking, covering an assigned product/service team and/or priority risk horizontal across the business. Operating within RBCs Enterprise Risk Management Framework, and as part of the Commercial Banking Business Risk Management team, the incumbent is accountable for leading risk control advisory, identification, design, and implementation, ensuring a comprehensive and robust control environment aligned to strategic objectives, regulatory requirements and enterprise control management standards.
This role will be in office 3 to 4 days a week.
What will you do?- Proactively supports Commercial Banking (CB) business control owners, as a subject matter expert, with ensuring risks are understood and managed through effective remediation, mitigation, and control
- Provides advisory and expert advice to the business on adequate control management practices, aligned to the RBC Enterprise Internal Control Management Standard
- Provides guidance and support to controls owners and key stakeholders on implementing effective mitigating controls - how to design, implement, monitor, measure
- Facilitates effective control identification, design, approvals, documentation, and governance
- Manages the end-to-end control implementation process, including monitoring, test planning, and Quality Assurance
- Ensures control performer /owner has the necessary support (and that the control is suitable for role) to execute the control.
- Represents Controls Design and Implementation in risk forums, actively providing advice and guidance to the business at Change Forums (for new projects), Risk Triage Assessments (RTA), Operational Risk Events (OREs), Risk Control Self Assessments (RCSAs) and working closely with Issue Management Managers to support and mange action plans.
- Manages, maintains, and oversees CB's risk register, inventory, and change logs and supports communication and reporting to the CB BRM team and senior leaders
- Proactively identifies pain points, gaps, and opportunities, by working with control owners, performers, 2LOD and 1LOD BRM partners, to drive continuous improvement in controls management and design
- Partners closely with Legal and Compliance to stay current on regulatory environment
- Builds, maintains and shares subject matter expertise on control management best practices and emerging trends in the financial services industry
- Proactively supports Enterprise Control Testing with preparing control owners for annual key-control assessments
What do you need to succeed? Must-have:- 2-3 years of experience in financial services or related business in product and process with complex risk procedures.
- Experience and sound understanding of risk and control frameworks and practices used in banking.
- Experience and sound understanding of process and control design methodologies
- Post-secondary education in business or related discipline
- Exceptional stakeholder management, cross functional collaborations. Strong influencing skills, relationship building skills to work across a diverse range of colleagues, functions and business areas.
- Well-developed problem-solving, critical thinking skills, inquisitive nature and comfort challenging current practices
- Self-starter, excellent communicator with strong writing and presentation skill. Prioritizes for impact; able to manage multiple priorities
Nice to have:- 2-3 years of experience as a risk professional
- Previous knowledge/experience with Key Risks/Controls tools (e.g. ERIC/Archer)
- Strong business acumen; understands profit & loss levers in commercial financial services
- Familiarity with risk data, systems and reporting tools
- Knowledge of Canadian Banking operations and processes
- Knowledge of Commercial Banking
- Knowledge of the current Regulatory environment
- Sound understanding of Enterprise Initiative Management frameworks and practices used in Canadian banking
- Graduate degree or professional designation
