What you will be doing:

Contributes to the overall success of Tangerine ensuring business goals, plans, and initiatives are delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives while mitigating risks and complying with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures, with a strong focus on emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The Senior Manager, Business Risk Advisory, Tangerine works closely with Tangerine Risk Owners and Control & Support Functions on risk and compliance activities to fulfill the mandate of the Non-Financial Risk Program, including Technology-enabled and AI-supported initiatives.

Is this role right for you? - In this role you will:

  • Supports the execution of operational and regulatory activities as part of the Tangerine's Non-Financial Risk Management program:
  • Supports the delivery of AI and other related projects within Business Risk Advisory.
  • Supports the delivery of the process-based risks and controls self-assessment (RCSA) program.
  • Supports the execution of the Compliance Risk and Control Assessment (CRCA).
  • Lead and support the New Initiatives Risk Assessment (NIRA) process by managing the initiative pipeline, providing risk advisory guidance, facilitating stakeholder engagement and approvals, driving remediation planning, and ensuring compliance with policy requirements.
  • Supports the reporting of Key Risk Indicators and Risk Appetite metrics.
  • Provide risk advisory support to business partners and lead / support activities such as risk impact assessments, issue remediation and risk control design & implementation, including for initiatives involving AI or advanced technology.
  • Acts as a governance and risk subject matter expert and provide Tangerine business units and executives with advice, guidance, and intelligence on current issues and emerging risk issues, and industry trends, including those related to Artificial Intelligence (AI), while leading AI initiatives within the Business Risk Management function.
  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Tangerine relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Understands how the Tangerine's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day- to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct, and applicable technology and AI risk policies.
  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment, communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.


Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • University degree in business, finance, risk management, law, or a related discipline. Advanced professional designations or postgraduate education are considered an asset.
  • Experience in technology risk management, governance, compliance, audit, controls, consulting, financial services, or other complex regulated environments.
  • Understanding of non-financial risk management frameworks, operational risk practices, controls, and risk governance. Experience within banking or other regulated industries is preferred.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal policies relevant to risk management and business operations. Familiarity with Canadian banking regulations and OSFI guidelines is an asset.
  • Strong ability to assess risks, challenge constructively, influence stakeholders, and collaborate across business and control functions.
  • Broad understanding of business processes, products, technologies, and operational environments, with the ability to identify and mitigate emerging risks.
