What You'll Be Doing

As a Senior Manager, Application Development at CIBC, you will lead cross-functional development teams and oversee several large-scale projects and support functions for key business lines. You will provide technical and strategic direction, ensuring best-practice development, high-quality delivery, and alignment with organizational goals.

In this role, you will direct, motivate, and develop your team to maximize engagement and performance, collaborate closely with business and technology stakeholders to deliver impactful solutions, champion continuous improvement and innovation in processes and technology adoption and ensure measurable success through quality, timeliness, and positive business outcomes.

CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You'll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you'll spend 2-3 days per week on-site at our Chicago location, while other days may be remote.

  • Strategic Development & Execution: Translate business requirements into robust system and application designs, collaborating with architects to ensure alignment with CIBC's technology roadmap and strategic objectives.
  • Strategy and Roadmap: Contribute to the development and execution of technology roadmaps. Lead multiple technology initiatives, ensuring consistency, best practices, and continuous improvement.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of emerging technologies, particularly in AI, cloud, and data engineering. Identify and implement opportunities for innovation, efficiency, and automation.
  • Change Leadership: Lead teams through organizational and technological change, ensuring adoption and engagement. Experience leading teams through change and transformation. Performance management: setting objectives, measuring outcomes, and providing feedback. Commitment to fostering an inclusive and high-performing team environment.
  • Security & Compliance: Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices and regulatory requirements relevant to banking/financial services


Who You Are
  • You demonstrate hands-on experience in .NET (C#) application development, SQL Server database design and optimization, data technology stack (SSIS, Azure SQL, REST APIs), BI tools (Tableau, Cognos, Power BI), Databricks for scalable ETL pipelines and data models. You have a solid knowledge of DevOps practices including environment management, security, pipeline management, compliance, release management with proficiency in Jira/Azure DevOps for taxonomy, story writing, estimation, and velocity measurement with proven experience managing large-scale projects/programs, including budgeting and resource planning and vendor management/third-party solution integration. Strong understanding of software architecture, RESTful APIs, microservices, and cloud platforms (Azure preferred) is required.
  • You are a people leader. Leading a team of developers and testers for 4-5 years and are a seasoned professional with the ability to coach and help develop other team members. You are a code quality champion with hands-on experience in Software Design using SOLID Design principles.
  • It is an asset if you have a familiarity with foundation AI models (e.g., GPT, BERT, Llama) and integrating AI/ML solutions into enterprise applications, understanding of AI model fine-tuning and customization with a strong experience with AI-powered coding agents (e.g., GitHub Copilot).
  • You have a degree/diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems, or a related field of study.

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $140,000- $170,000 based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit's incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component.
