The Enterprise Data Solutions (EDS) team at Toast is on a mission to deliver a trusted, scalable, and governed data foundation that empowers every team at Toast to make decisions with speed and confidence. The Senior Manager, Analytics Engineering will lead the team responsible for our core Analytics layer in Toast's enterprise data warehouse and own the data architecture and modeling strategy that enables federated analytics teams across all enterprise data domains. This person will set direction for how Toast models, governs, and exposes data at scale, and will build and develop a team of analytics engineers capable of executing on that vision. The ideal candidate has high standards for their team's work and a track record of raising the bar across an organization. They bring deep expertise in enterprise data solutions, a point of view on where the semantic and analytics layers of a modern data platform should go, and the judgment to balance long-term architecture with near-term business needs. We are looking for a leader who can operate across ambiguity, align stakeholders across the company, and build a team and roadmap that enable all Toasters to make data-informed decisions.

A day in the life (Responsibilities)

• Own the strategy and roadmap for a hub & spoke data architecture, and drive alignment on it across domain teams
• Lead the team that builds and maintains the core Analytics layer in our data warehouse, ensuring it meets the needs of the domain teams building on top of it
• Set the vision for an AI-ready semantic layer that is extendable across business domains, and guide its execution
• Build, manage, and develop a team of analytics engineers - hiring, coaching, and setting growth paths
• Partner with senior business stakeholders, product leadership, and engineering leadership to align on data analytics priorities across the organization
• Represent EDS's analytics strategy in cross-functional and leadership forums
• Partner closely with data engineering leadership to ensure platform scalability and coherent architecture across teams
• Provide technical and people leadership, mentorship, and career development to team members

What you'll need to thrive (Requirements)

• 8+ years experience in Business Intelligence, Analytics, and/or Data Engineering roles
• 2+ years experience managing or formally leading a team of analytics or data engineers
• 5+ years experience developing data modeling strategies at scale
• 4+ years experience developing in dbt
• Ability to understand the business needs behind data modeling decisions
• Highly proficient in SQL, with a focus on query design and performance
• Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive alignment
• Thrives in a fast-paced environment and comfortable operating under ambiguity

What will help you stand out (Nonessential Skills/Nice to Haves)

• Experience with Airflow
• Experience with Sigma, Hex, and/or other BI dashboard tools
• Experience in cloud-based data warehouses, specifically Snowflake
• Experience with Python
• Experience building or scaling a data/analytics engineering function
• Experience in a SaaS or FinTech focused enterprise

The base salary range for this role is listed below. The starting salary will be determined based on skills, experience, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions if eligible), equity, and benefits.
