DescriptionTitle: Senior Infrastructure, Security & Operations Architect Location: New Albany, Ohio
Job Type: Full Time
Position Summary Wallick is seeking a senior, hands-on architect to connect enterprise infrastructure, cybersecurity, and daily operations. You will shape the network linking our communities to the corporate office, the hybrid data center and cloud environment, the platforms and devices associates depend on, and the identity and security controls that keep the environment trusted.
This is not a strategy-only position. You will design and engineer major changes, share the operational load, and turn solutions into standards and procedures others can execute. You will also serve as the senior technical voice across infrastructure and security, command major and cross-domain incidents, integrate both domains into one technical view, and communicate with senior leadership, auditors, and insurers alongside the Sr. Infrastructure Manager.
How the role works - Work within a two-architect model in Wallick IT's Power & Protect pillar, alongside a Network Engineer and a partner-delivered IT Service Desk.
- Own a primary domain, infrastructure or security, while maintaining working fluency in the other and providing backup coverage.
- Operate as a senior individual contributor with no direct reports. Seniority reflects broader scope, judgment, incident leadership, and influence rather than supervision.
- Participate in the on-call escalation rotation and travel regularly to Wallick communities for hands-on work.
What you will do Own architecture, standards, and the roadmap - Own the architecture for your primary domain and maintain an accurate, current view of the environment, its connections, and its condition.
- Create practical standards and reference patterns for firewalls, devices, platforms, identity, and security controls.
- Build and sequence a roadmap that balances business needs, risk, technical health, and team capacity.
Design and deliver major change - Design and engineer major initiatives such as Azure migration, hybrid environment strategy, edge network standardization across approximately 162 firewalls, identity and email security modernization, platform upgrades, and workload transitions.
- Take solutions from design through production readiness, then complete the handoff with documentation, operating procedures, and training.
- Partner across IT to create secure-by-default patterns that are practical for the environment Wallick operates.
Lead in your primary domain - Infrastructure focus: network, firewall, data center, virtualization, Azure and hybrid cloud, end-user computing, device lifecycle, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery exercises.
- Security focus: Entra ID, conditional and privileged access, joiner-mover-leaver processes, layered defenses, detection and response, incident playbooks, audit evidence, remediation tracking, cybersecurity awareness, and third-party security risk.
Operate, troubleshoot, and strengthen the team - Carry a meaningful share of daily infrastructure and security operations, including changes, alert triage, access requests, and control upkeep.
- Serve as the top escalation tier in your primary domain, lead incident response within that domain, and take command of major or cross-domain incidents.
- Convert recurring work, escalations, and designs into procedures, patterns, recorded walkthroughs, and working sessions so responsibilities can move closer to the front line.
Senior-level scope - Take command of major and cross-domain incidents, leading the technical response end to end and coordinating with forensics partners, breach counsel, and cyber insurers alongside the Sr. Infrastructure Manager.
- Integrate the work of both architecture domains into one sequenced technical view that informs the broader IT roadmap.
- Represent the team's technical position to senior leadership, auditors, and insurers through concise briefings and candid risk assessments.
- Raise standards of practice through review discipline, mentoring, teaching, and example, without formal supervisory authority.
What you bring - A bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- A track record typically built over eight or more years across infrastructure and security engineering, including authored designs, implemented controls, modernization work, and end-to-end incident response.
- Deep expertise in either infrastructure or security, plus working fluency in the other.
- Experience owning a technology or security function, program, service line, or practice with accountability for outcomes, not only individual projects.
- Incident command experience leading response end to end, including coordination with forensics partners, breach counsel, and cyber insurers.
- Clear, candid communication with senior leadership, including concise briefings and direct descriptions of technical risk.
- Experience with enterprise networking and firewalls at multi-site scale, hybrid data centers and virtualization, cloud platforms, and end-user computing, or enterprise identity, layered security controls, and hands-on incident response.
- Fluency in Microsoft 365, Azure, Entra ID, Intune, and Microsoft Defender is strongly preferred. Sentinel and Purview experience is a plus.
- Experience designing backup and recovery, conducting disaster recovery exercises, and testing recovery objectives.
- Scripting and infrastructure-as-code capability using PowerShell, Bicep, Terraform, or similar tools.
- Advanced troubleshooting skills and the judgment to remain calm and methodical during complex incidents.
- Working knowledge of a recognized controls framework such as NIST CSF or CIS Controls, with the ability to size controls appropriately for a mid-size operator.
- Clear technical writing and the ability to create designs, standards, diagrams, and procedures others can follow.
- A valid driver's license and reliable transportation for regular travel to Wallick communities.
What will help you stand out - Experience in regulated environments such as affordable housing, senior living, healthcare-adjacent organizations, or financial services.
- A record of making the secure path the practical and easy path.
- A preference for standardized, documented, predictable environments rather than becoming the only person who knows how something works.
- A teaching mindset that turns questions and escalations into stronger processes and more capable colleagues.
The environment This role is based at Wallick's corporate office in New Albany, Ohio, with regular on-site work at communities across the portfolio. It includes extended periods working at a computer, occasional lifting of IT equipment up to 40 pounds, periodic travel to the data center and partner facilities, and after-hours work when major incidents require it.
