About the Role:Remitly One is building the next generation of financial products that extend beyond remittance - giving customers a single, trusted platform to access, manage, and grow their money globally. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Remitly One team, you will lead the design and delivery of cohesive product features that directly shape the experience of millions of customers. You will serve as a key technical voice on a cross-functional team, driving engineering excellence and helping define what it means to build world-class financial services. You will report to the Senior Engineering Manager and work in a hybrid capacity from our Seattle office.
You Will- Set the technical standard: Design and write code that is well-tested, resilient, extensible, and scalable - setting the quality bar for the team and making it easy for others to contribute.
- Lead team projects: Break down complex features into parallel workstreams, provide delivery estimates, and drive execution from design through launch with a high degree of independence.
- Guide engineering excellence: Uphold and exemplify Foundational Excellence standards - including security, reliability, observability, and quality - and proactively identify and resolve risks before they become incidents.
- Mentor and grow the team: Guide and mentor SDE peers through code reviews, design reviews, and retrospectives. Represent Remitly's cultural values and technical competencies in interviews.
- Collaborate cross-functionally: Partner with Product, Design, Analytics, and other engineering teams to translate customer needs into scalable technical solutions and deliver on shared outcomes.
- Communicate with clarity: Effectively articulate complex technical problems, trade-offs, and proposals to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
You Have- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Expertise in one or more backend or full-stack programming languages (e.g., Go, Kotlin, Java, TypeScript) and the ability to adapt to new languages and frameworks as needed.
- Experience designing secure, scalable, and performant software using cloud-based infrastructure solutions (e.g., AWS).
- Experience leading projects at the team level, including breaking features into parallel workstreams, estimating timelines, and coaching other engineers through mentoring, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity in product requirements, technical design, and cross-team dependencies while driving decisions to resolution.
- Ability to articulate best practices for error handling, observability, and operational excellence.
- 5+ years of software engineering experience in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
Compensation DetailsThe starting base salary range for this position is typically $180,000 - $225,000. . In the U.S., Remitly employees are shareholders in our Company and equity is part of our total compensation plan.
