Senior Enterprise Architect
Full-time
Huntsville, AL

Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Enterprise Architect to provide direct advisory support to the Army Materiel Command (AMC) Chief Technology Officer (CTO) in executing an enterprise-wide digital modernization and data-centric transformation strategy. This role owns the enterprise view of the AMC technology landscape: building and maintaining an authoritative picture of the current portfolio, defining the target architecture and modernization roadmap, and equipping the CTO with defensible recommendations on what to keep, retire, modernize, or transition.

This is a strategy and advisory role, not a hands-on build role. The successful candidate excels at bridging high-level mission priorities and complex technical direction, and at translating rigorous analysis into clear, executive-ready decisions. Because this team provides direct support to the CTO, the work flexes with shifting Commander requirements; comfort operating in ambiguity and re-prioritizing quickly is essential. The Senior Enterprise Architect works alongside a Lead Integrator, an Analytics Engineer, and a Software Evaluation Engineer to give senior government leadership the enterprise visibility and strategic frameworks needed to make highly informed, defensible technology decisions.

What You'll Do

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Build and maintain a comprehensive baseline of the AMC technology and application portfolio, and keep it current as the single authoritative "as-is" picture of the enterprise.
  • Define the target-state enterprise architecture and a phased modernization roadmap aligned to CTO and Commander priorities.
  • Deliver objective, data-backed recommendations to retain, retire, consolidate, modernize, or transition enterprise applications, with the scoring rationale needed to defend those recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Establish enterprise technical standards and governance direction for cloud computing, Application Programming Interface (API) integration, and Development, Security, and Operations (DevSecOps) • setting direction rather than performing hands-on implementation.
  • Shape the government's position on software ownership, data rights, and technical-debt reduction across acquisition and sustainment.
  • Produce executive decision products • decision memoranda, options papers, and briefing decks • that turn complex technical assessments into clear, actionable choices for the CTO.
  • Partner with the Technology Integration Engineer to mature validated pilots onto the roadmap and into enduring, fully sustained enterprise programs.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited school in a technical discipline (e.g., Information Technology, Software or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity).
  • 10+ years of relevant professional experience, including senior enterprise architecture or technology strategy work across large, complex technology infrastructure (e.g., Azure on-prem, VMWare, Nutanix) and ecosystems.
  • Proven track record defining target-state architectures, modernization roadmaps, and/or technology governance frameworks.
  • Experience with cloud computing architectures (e.g., AWS, Azure, Citrix), Service-Oriented Architectures, microservices, API integration strategies, and DevSecOps practices.
  • Experience with portfolio management • scoring models, technical-debt assessment, and retain/retire/modernize analysis.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical assessments into clear, executive-ready strategies and documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively amid ambiguous, fast-shifting priorities in a direct-support advisory role.
  • U.S. citizenship and an active Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain/maintain a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance.

Desired Qualifications
  • Prior advisory support to the Department of War (DoW) or specifically within an Army enterprise environment.
  • Familiarity with the AMC mission space, including the Organic Industrial Base (OIB) and supply chain logistics.
  • Experience navigating federal technology acquisition processes and software data-rights negotiations.
  • Experience working with Systems Engineering teams working on MBSE concepts and frameworks (e.g., SysML, DODAF, UML, UAF)
  • Familiarity with enterprise data platforms (such as Army Vantage or Palantir Foundry) at the decision-support level.
