Senior Engineering Manager to lead the HB Assistant engineering team. You'll own delivery for a core, high-visibility product area, grow and develop a team of engineers, and partner closely with Product, Design, and Data to ship agentic experiences that customers love. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone fluent in modern AI/agentic engineering and excited to build in a rapidly evolving space.
These are the key ways you'll contribute and create impact in this role:- Lead, coach, and grow a team of software engineers building the HB Assistant platform and product across web and mobile.
- Own end-to-end delivery of your area - from technical planning and architecture through shipping, quality, and reliability.
- Partner with Product, Design, and Data leadership to set roadmap priorities and turn ambiguous problems into shipped experiences.
- Drive engineering excellence: system design, code quality, monitoring/alerting foundations, latency, and data validation for agentic workflows.
- Champion AI-native, end-to-end systems thinking across the team and the broader EPDD organization.
- Recruit, hire, and develop top engineering talent; set a high bar and a healthy, high-trust team culture.
- Balance velocity and rigor in a 0-to-1 environment where priorities evolve quickly.
The Foundation for Success - These are the experiences and strengths that will set you up for success in this role:
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years managing engineering teams.
- Track record leading platform or product engineering teams in a fast-paced SaaS or consumer tech environment.
- Strong technical foundation - you can go deep on architecture and design decisions and stay close to the code.
- Fluency in modern AI/agentic engineering (LLMs, agents, tool use, evals) and genuine excitement about where the field is going.
- Experience designing platforms, developer-facing APIs, or shared services that other teams build on top of. Ability to influence other teams' roadmaps to unlock shared agentic capabilities.
- Strong data instincts-you can read funnels, understand cohorts, and know how to instrument features for learning.
- AI fluency: You actively use AI tools to accelerate your own work. You coach your team to do the same, and you're opinionated about when AI-powered features genuinely move the needle for users.
- Excellent cross-functional communication. You're as comfortable in a product strategy session as a technical design review.
Bonus points if you bring:- Experience building consumer or SMB-facing products.
- Background in mobile (push notifications, chat surfaces) and/or data-intensive recommendation systems.
- Familiarity with small business or hourly workforce products.
