Full Job Description
Job Purpose

The Engineer will be responsible for the development and implementation of initiatives and technology that impact the electricity distribution and transmission systems.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure that a robust basis of design is produced for each scheme which documents the reasons for the investment, the options considered, costs and program.
  • Support data and digital asset management development across multiple asset-related digital products to support grid planning, operations, and asset management functions.
  • Support emerging strategic initiatives through developing technical standards, process development, and product development as new programs and business needs evolve.
  • Coordinate across technical and business related teams to deliver process changes and solutions to accommodate company and industry changes.
  • Represent the company on industry and regulatory working groups as appropriate. Assure the focus and attainment of business goals and objectives
  • Provides support to other areas of National Grid such as Electric Operations, Regional Control Center, Distribution Planning, Transmission Planning, etc.
  • Participate in the development, implementation and management of new technologies or automation of existing technologies.
  • Engage appropriately with specified stakeholders, government agencies, consenting authorities and media within the development phases of a project.
  • Input to the development of the engineering perspective of new business concepts.
  • Complete the definition of technical specifications in relation to a range of technologies.
  • Determine the options to be considered for the project at initiation to satisfy the need case for investment.
  • Ensure that a robust basis of design is produced for each scheme which documents the reasons for the investment, the options considered, costs and program.


Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering school is required.
  • 6 years of related experience is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry practice, standards and legislation is strongly desired.
  • Knowledge of current trends within the industry and developments in legislation or regulation preferred.
  • Proactively makes changes to improve performance, efficiency and effectiveness of processes; for example, challenge existing engineering procedures and highlight areas for improvement.
  • Possesses positive expectations for team members and expresses regard for them.
  • Relative Experience in Programming in Python, C, C++ or similar languages is preferred.
  • Able to motivate, counsel, coach, and develop direct reports and others.
  • Experience establishing clearly defined goals and standards of employee performance.


More Information

Salary: $119,000 - $140,000 per year
