Summary

The MIL Corporation is seeking a Senior Network Security Engineer (Network Engineering, Associate) to support and enhance a large Cisco-based enterprise network environment. This position is responsible for designing, implementing, securing, and maintaining network infrastructure while advancing Zero Trust Architecture initiatives and ensuring compliance with federal cybersecurity standards.

The successful candidate will serve as a technical leader responsible for network engineering, security architecture, vulnerability remediation, incident response support, and operational excellence across core, distribution, access, and perimeter network environments.

This position currently requires an on-site schedule. Schedule is subject to change based on company/contract requirements.

This position is currently unfunded and is being posted in anticipation of a future contract award and funding approval. We are proactively identifying and engaging with qualified candidates. While candidates may be contacted for pre-screening, any hiring decisions will be contingent upon funding availability and final program requirements or client approval.

Responsibilities

Network Engineering & Operations
  • Design, implement, and maintain enterprise network infrastructure including core, distribution, access, and edge network environments.
  • Configure, manage, and troubleshoot Cisco routing and switching technologies.
  • Administer and support network services including VLANs, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and network access controls.
  • Perform root cause analysis and corrective actions for network outages, performance issues, and security incidents.
  • Develop and maintain network architecture documentation, diagrams, and configuration standards.

Network Security & Zero Trust Architecture
  • Implement and maintain network security controls aligned with NIST SP 800-53 and Zero Trust Architecture principles (NIST SP 800-207).
  • Design and maintain network segmentation and micro-segmentation strategies to protect critical assets and limit lateral movement.
  • Implement least-privilege and identity-based network access controls.
  • Manage and support 802.1X network access control solutions.
  • Harden network devices following Cisco Secure Configuration Guides and industry best practices.
  • Secure perimeter environments through firewall policy management, ingress/egress filtering, and multi-factor authentication controls.

Monitoring, Compliance & Incident Response
  • Support continuous monitoring of network infrastructure and security events.
  • Integrate network devices with enterprise monitoring, logging, and SIEM platforms.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and coordinate remediation activities.
  • Support incident response activities including forensic data collection, containment actions, and network analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with federal cybersecurity frameworks and organizational security requirements.

Change Management & Documentation
  • Participate in formal change management processes and security impact assessments.
  • Maintain accurate network configurations, hardware inventories, and baseline documentation.
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Ensure operational documentation remains current and audit-ready.

Collaboration & Leadership
  • Serve as a senior technical resource for complex networking and security issues.
  • Collaborate with cloud engineering, Microsoft infrastructure, cybersecurity, and service desk teams.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior staff and operational teams.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 8 years of experience supporting enterprise network environments.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on Cisco networking experience.
  • Strong experience with:
    • Cisco routing and switching
    • Network segmentation and micro-segmentation
    • VLANs, DNS, DHCP, VPN technologies
    • 802.1X Network Access Control
    • Firewall administration and network security
    • Network monitoring and logging solutions
    • Vulnerability management and remediation
    • Incident response and forensic support
  • Experience implementing NIST 800-53 security controls.
  • Experience supporting or implementing Zero Trust Architecture initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of network hardening, security baselines, and secure configuration management.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and documentation skills.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience supporting Federal Government environments.
  • Experience with Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE).
  • Experience integrating network infrastructure with SIEM platforms.
  • Experience supporting cloud-connected network environments.
  • Knowledge of Risk Management Framework (RMF) processes.
  • Experience with network automation and infrastructure-as-code tools.
  • One or more of the following certifications are highly desired:
    • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP Enterprise)
    • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE)
    • CompTIA Security+
    • Cisco CyberOps Professional
    • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
    • GIAC Security Certifications (GIAC, GSEC, GCIA, or similar)

Education

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.

Clearance

Ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance
