Full Job Description
The Senior Director Team Security for The New York Knicks will be accountable for developing and implementing proactive/preventative security measures and programs for the protection of MSG's team personnel, players and family members both domestically and on a global basis as needed. This position will also support MSG's business continuity and crisis management efforts. This position will be responsible for the execution of player-specific needs and appearances, in accordance with existing team and Madison Square Garden policies, guidelines and initiatives.
What will you do?
• Develop and maintain a best-in-class security program for the NY Knicks, ensuring team personnel and players are always protected.
• In partnership with MSG's Intelligence and Investigation team, conduct investigations involving game incidents that involve players, staff and others as necessary and directed.
• Travel with team throughout the course of the season (preseason, regular season and playoffs) and provide personal player security (ingress, egress, post-game, etc.) for all games at MSG and road games, working in tandem with team security and other related MSG personnel.
• Participate in the security planning and on-site management of security at selected special events including the NBA, All-Star Games, Global Games, Drafts, Playoffs, and other special events.
• Coordinate, prepare and disseminate all relative information regarding player security to appropriate team personnel / executives and appropriate in-house staff (MSG/Command Center, etc.).
• Interact and coordinate efforts with all necessary team personnel and MSG staff on game nights.
• Provide personal security for family members as directed.
• Ensure the highest level of guest experience, while providing a secure environment, in all areas where the potential public/player interaction may exist.
• Responsible for communicating all relative information regarding player security to team executives and MSG staff on game nights - including those posts near the team locker rooms and related additional areas restricted to non-club personnel.
• Confer and provide information regarding operational and investigative situations when necessary.
• Will work closely with the Director of Event Operations, Director of Building Security, Director of MSG Intelligence and the Director of Investigations to coordinate player activities when applicable.
• Provide exceptional experiences for our guests, partners, and team members, including by adhering to our appearance and presentation guidelines while on-site.
What do you need to succeed?
• 12+ years of related experience
• Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of security operations and management experience with a knowledge of events and/or sports operations.
• Ability to develop and execute company and departmental standard operating procedures (SOP's) and effectively articulate and manage security budgetary initiatives.
• Strong background and experience in emergency planning/business continuity.
• The ability to effectively provide close supervision, guidance, and structure to staff as needed.
• Proven ability to assess, develop and successfully execute strategic internal and external security plans and quickly adapt to change as required by events.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; organizational and time management skills are required.
• Must have the ability to work independently and use sound business judgment while displaying tact, diplomacy and a commitment to company values.
• Adept at maintaining a positive, open, approachable, and professional relationship with a diverse group of people.
• Highly responsive to emergencies.
• Experience working with law enforcement and coordinating security and safety needs for clients.
• Specialized training in safety and security for high profile clients.
• Demonstrate the ability to make sound decisions without detailed instruction
Special Requirements:
• Position requires substantial travel year-round. Candidates will be expected to be able to travel often and endure long periods of standing and sitting with little to no notice.
• Work hours are often fluid and not considered "normal' work hours while traveling during the season.
• Candidates are required to be extremely flexible as travel plans are susceptible to delays and changes to accommodate team needs.
