The Role

The Senior Director, Providence Cancer Institute, serves as the administrative leader for the Cancer Service Line across Oregon, partnering closely with the Executive Medical Director in a dyad leadership model to advance the vision, strategy, growth, and performance of the program. This leader will help shape the future of cancer care at Providence Cancer Institute of Oregon, a program known for innovative, compassionate care, leading-edge research, clinical trials, immunotherapy, genomic sequencing, multidisciplinary treatment planning, and robust support services for patients and families. Working alongside a team of highly skilled and incredibly compassionate experts in oncology, the Senior Director will drive clinical excellence, operational performance, strategic growth, financial stewardship, workforce engagement, and program innovation. The Senior Director collaborates across hospitals, ambulatory sites, physician leaders, and corporate divisions to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care that improves outcomes and expands access for the communities we serve. This is an exceptional opportunity to lead a nationally accredited cancer program, overseeing approximately 250 caregivers, multiple ambulatory oncology sites, and more than 100,000 patient encounters annually.

What You'll Do

Strategic and Service Line Leadership: In partnership with the Executive Medical Director, provide strategic and operational leadership for the Cancer Service Line across Oregon. Establish vision, priorities, and performance expectations that advance growth, quality, patient experience, workforce engagement, and financial sustainability.Co-lead service line governance structures and ensure alignment among physician leaders, administrative leaders, hospitals, ambulatory sites, and system stakeholders. Serve as a champion for collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement across the continuum of cancer care.

Operational Excellence: Provide executive oversight for operations across multiple oncology sites and care settings supporting more than 100,000 annual patient visits. Create a culture of high reliability and operational excellence through standardization, process improvement, innovation, and data-driven decision-making. Ensure exceptional performance in access, patient satisfaction, physician satisfaction, quality outcomes, workforce engagement, and operational efficiency. Lead transformational initiatives designed to improve care delivery, reduce unnecessary variation, and enhance the patient and caregiver experience.

Strategy and Business Development: Lead development and execution of a comprehensive Cancer Service Line strategy that advances clinical excellence, market differentiation, growth, and access to care. Identify opportunities for program expansion, new models of care, physician alignment, partnerships, and service innovation. Develop business plans, market assessments, financial analyses, and strategic recommendations that position the service line for long-term success. Partner closely with Marketing, Business Development, and Communications to develop and execute growth strategies and community outreach initiatives.

Program Development: Collaborate with physician leaders to strengthen and expand multidisciplinary, disease-focused cancer programs that deliver coordinated, patient-centered care. Advance innovative approaches to treatment, access, care coordination, survivorship, and supportive services. Support achievement and maintenance of national accreditations, certifications, and recognition programs that reflect excellence in cancer care.

Quality and Clinical Excellence: Partner with Medical Directors and quality leaders to continuously improve quality, safety, patient experience, and clinical outcomes across the service line. Support development and execution of quality improvement strategies that drive measurable improvements across the cancer care continuum and strengthen the organization's reputation as a leader in oncology care.

Financial Stewardship: In partnership with Executive Medical Director, accountable for the overall financial performance of the Cancer Service Line. Develop and execute financial strategies that support sustainability while advancing clinical programs and patient care services.

Workforce and Leadership Development: Provide leadership and management for approximately 250 caregiver FTEs across the Cancer Service Line. Build a culture of accountability, engagement, inclusion, professional growth, and continuous learning. Develop current and future leaders while fostering an environment that attracts, retains, and inspires exceptional talent.

Physician and Provider Partnerships: Develop and maintain strong relationships with physician leaders, community providers, hospitals, and affiliated organizations. In partnership with the Executive Medical Director and Acute Care Service Area leadership, strengthen physician alignment, referral relationships, and collaboration to create a seamless experience for patients and providers throughout the oncology network.

Community and External Relationships: Serve as a representative of the Cancer Service Line with community organizations, professional associations, strategic partners, and regional stakeholders. Promote the mission and reputation of the program while developing partnerships that strengthen cancer care services and improve community health outcomes.

Philanthropic Engagement: Partner with Foundation leadership, physician leaders, and key stakeholders to advance philanthropic initiatives that support innovation, program development, patient support services, and strategic priorities within the Cancer Service Line.

What You'll Bring:

Education & Credentials

• Master's Degree

Experience & Expertise

• 10 or more years of job-related experience.
• 8 years of senior-level management experience in health care, preferably in leading, organizing and managing major clinical programs and business services and functions. Oncology experience strongly preferred.

Professional & Leadership Capabilities

• Solid financial background gained through both operational and business planning experience.
• Ability to develop strong working relationships with physician and other health care professionals.
• Working knowledge of healthcare reimbursement principles, information systems, cost management, quality management, culture of excellence and change management.
• Understand and be comfortable in a matrix structured environment.
• Understand the needs and preference of population served and manages the efficiency and quality of services for a patient population across service lines, in concert with physician partners.
• Process information, adapt quickly to changing healthcare environment and have ability to lead projects (from conception to implementation).

The full pay range is listed in accordance with applicable law. Final compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, organizational compensation alignment, and the approved hiring department budget for the position. This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation and benefits.

This position is onsite, based on the Providence Portland Medical Center campus (not hybrid/remote).

Posted are the minimum and the maximum wage rates on the wage range for this position. The successful candidate's placement on the wage range for this position will be determined based upon relevant job experience and other applicable factors. These amounts are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
