What You'll Do

The Denver District Attorney's Office is seeking an experienced criminal attorney to direct our Conviction Review Unit (CRU).

The DA's Conviction Review Unit (CRU) reviews the following kinds of cases:
  • Actual innocence. The CRU reviews cases for plausible claims of actual innocence
  • Resentencing Cases Subject to C.R.S. 18-1.3-411, including petitions filed with the court and defendants' requests for prosecutor-initiated resentencing
  • Clemency Petitions and Special Needs Parole Requests. Recommendations are made to the governor's office on clemency petitions and special needs parole requests.


The CRU consists of a Director /Deputy District Attorney, an investigator, and interns who work, often in in collaboration with the applicant's defense counsel, to investigate the applicant's claims and determine whether to oppose or, where appropriate, support the applicant's request for relief.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree or Bachelor of Laws Degree
  • Experience: Ten (10) years of experience as an attorney at law in criminal experience, including experience as a prosecutor
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted
  • License/Certifications: Possession of a license to practice law in Colorado from the Colorado Supreme Court at the time of application
