Full Job Description
Position: Senior Data Engineer Consultant
  • Location: Montreal or Toronto (Hybrid, 2 onsite, 3 remote).


As a Senior Data Engineer with a Databricks focus, you will play a critical role in designing, building, and evolving modern data platforms and advanced analytics solutions for enterprise clients. This role is ideal for a senior-level professional who brings strong hands-on expertise, ownership across the full data lifecycle, and the confidence to lead technically, influence teams, and drive best practices in complex, client-facing environments.

What You'll Do:
  • Lead the design, development, and optimization of Databricks-based data solutions, supporting analytics, data science, and machine learning use cases from ingestion through production.
  • Design and implement lakehouse architectures, following medallion architecture principles to ensure scalability, data quality, governance, and performance.
  • Build and maintain parameterized ingestion frameworks for batch and near real-time pipelines.
  • Design, implement, and operate CI/CD pipelines to enable reliable, automated deployments across environments.
  • Define, promote, and enforce Databricks best practices, including the use of Feature Store, MLflow, Model Registry, Unity Catalog, and Databricks Asset Bundles (DAB).
  • Act as a technical leader and mentor, confidently guiding and constructively challenging junior-to-mid-level Databricks and ML engineering teams.
  • Assess existing data platforms and pipelines, identifying opportunities to improve performance, cost efficiency, security, and maintainability.
  • Partner closely with architects, data scientists, engineers, and business stakeholders in a fast-paced consulting environment.
  • Communicate technical decisions clearly and persuasively to both technical and non-technical audiences, demonstrating strong consulting presence.

What We're Looking For

Our ideal candidate brings a balance of technical skills, curiosity, and a consultative mindset:
  • Minimum 8+ years of experience
  • Proven, end-to-end, hands-on experience as a seasoned Databricks user, including implementation of platform best practices such as Feature Store, MLflow, Unity Catalog, Model Registry, and Databricks Asset Bundles (DAB).
  • Demonstrated experience creating and orchestrating CI/CD deployment pipelines for data and ML solutions.
  • Concrete experience deploying machine learning workflows into production environments.
  • Strong, well-rounded data engineering background, including deep understanding of medallion architectures and the design of parameterized ingestion frameworks.
  • Ability to act as a clear, confident technical leader, capable of challenging and guiding junior and mid-level Databricks ML teams toward best-practice implementations.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and lead in client-facing and team-based settings.
  • Native-level or fully fluent English is critical; French is a meaningful advantage.


Desirable Requirements:
  • Prior experience in data or technology consulting, working directly with enterprise clients.
  • Strong experience with Apache Spark / PySpark and performance optimization on Databricks.
  • Experience working in cloud environments such as Azure, AWS, or GCP and their associated data services.
  • Familiarity with orchestration and transformation tools such as dbt, Airflow, or equivalent.
  • Advanced exposure to MLOps, data governance, and security in distributed data platforms.
  • A proactive mindset focused on innovation, continuous improvement, and staying current with evolving Databricks capabilities.

The expected annual compensation for this position ranges from $105,000 to $120,000 CAD, depending on experience, skills, location, and internal equity. This salary range is provided as a guideline and may be adjusted for the selected candidate.
