About This RoleThe Senior Compliance Engineer is responsible for supporting regulatory, certification, and environmental compliance activities for commercial fire alarm and life safety systems. The role works closely with engineering, product management, and external certification bodies to ensure products comply with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements throughout the product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities - Support product compliance with applicable fire life safety codes, standards, and authority approvals including NFPA, UL, ULC, FM, CSFM, NYFD COA, EN standards, CCCF (China), and other Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements.
- Interpret and apply regulatory, certification, and standards requirements to product designs, specifications, and documentation.
- Support RF emissions and immunity compliance activities, including FCC, Industry Canada, and CE EMC requirements.
- Performs and assist EH&S with global environmental compliance initiatives including RoHS, REACH, POPs Regulation, PFAS reporting, TSCA, California Proposition 65, and Canadian environmental regulations.
- Participate in product design and system architecture reviews to identify compliance risks and recommend mitigation actions early in development.
- Coordinate compliance testing and certification activities with internal engineering teams and external test laboratories and certification agencies.
- Prepare, review, and maintain compliance documentation, technical files, certification reports, and approval records.
- Monitor changes in applicable codes, standards, and regulations and assess potential impact on existing and future products.
- Support regulatory audits, factory inspections, and ongoing product approval maintenance activities.
Basic Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree
- 5+ years of experience in regulatory compliance, certification engineering, product safety, or another regulated engineering environment
Preferred Qualifications - Bachelor's degree within a technical discipline (Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field)
- Working knowledge of fire and life safety system standards and certification frameworks (e.g., UL, ULC, FM, EN, IEC, NFPA).
- Familiarity with EMC / RF compliance requirements (FCC, CE, Industry Canada).
- Basic understanding of global environmental compliance requirements such as RoHS and REACH, Prop 65, and PFAS Regulations
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply complex technical standards and regulatory documentation.
- Strong analytical, documentation, and technical communication skills.
- Experience with commercial fire alarm or life safety systems.
- Experience working with external certification bodies and test laboratories.
- Exposure to international certification and approval processes.
