Job Summary

The Senior Cloud Engineer is a key contributor within BMO's Cloud Adoption and Support teams, responsible for assisting in designing, building, and enabling secure and scalable cloud solutions-primarily in Microsoft Azure, with additional multi-cloud expertise in AWS. This role blends deep hands-on engineering with cloud enablement, helping internal development teams adopt cloud services efficiently and consistently.

The successful candidate will support enterprise cloud adoption by engineering cloud-native solutions, building Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and applying modern application hosting patterns across Azure and AWS environments.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Architecture & Engineering
  • Assist with design, build, and enhance cloud infrastructure solutions with a primary focus on Azure, while supporting AWS workloads where applicable.
  • Assist with implementing cloud-native architectures across Azure and AWS using compute, serverless, PaaS, storage, networking, and identity services.
  • Assist with developing reusable cloud components, templates, and reference patterns to streamline multi-cloud adoption.
  • Assist with design, deployment, and management of Azure/AWS-based solutions ensuring reliability, scalability, security, and operational readiness.


Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
  • Assist in building and maintaining IaC using Bicep, CDK, CDKTF and Terraform for Azure and AWS resources.
  • Enhance multi-cloud automation frameworks covering provisioning, configuration, and deployment pipelines.
  • Support automated guardrails, policy enforcement, and cloud governance patterns across both Azure and AWS.
  • Help build wrappers, modules to improve IaC workflows.
  • Ensure consistent and compliant deployments across environments.


Cloud Enablement
  • Act as a trusted advisor for internal engineering teams, offering guidance on cloud best practices, multi-cloud patterns, workload migration, and architectural decisions.
  • Participate in architecture reviews and technical workshops supporting both Azure and AWS solutions.
  • Connect cloud services to create a seamless developer experience.


Security, Governance & Compliance
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity, and compliance teams to conduct cloud service reviews, assessments.
  • Ensure all cloud workloads adhere to industry best practices and regulatory requirements.


Operations & Optimization
  • Troubleshoot and resolve cloud infrastructure issues across Azure and AWS environments.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate builds, security scanning, and deployments.
  • Optimize containerized environments (AKS, ECS/EKS) for performance, resilience, and cost efficiency.
  • Review and assist with implementing monitoring, logging, alerting, backups, and operational runbooks for all workloads.
  • Support patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management for container and cloud services.
  • Drive cloud services end-to-end with autonomy, from design to deployment to ongoing improvement.


Required Qualifications
  • 5-7+ years of hands-on experience designing and deploying cloud infrastructure, primarily in Azure, with working experience in AWS.
  • Strong IaC development experience using Bicep, CDK, CDKTF and Terraform (multi-cloud).
  • Solid understanding of compute, storage, networking, identity, and security concepts across Azure and AWS.
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions; AWS Code Pipeline an asset).
  • Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Python, or Bash).
  • Practical experience with cloud security and operational best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (AKS, EKS, ECS, ACR, ECR).


Preferred Qualifications
  • Azure certifications such as AZ-104, AZ-305, or AZ-400.
  • AWS certifications (e.g., Solutions Architect Associate) are a strong asset.
  • Experience in enterprise or regulated environments with multi-cloud governance frameworks.
  • Familiarity with FinOps practices across Azure and AWS.

Salary:

$75,900.00 - $141,900.00

Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked.
