Responsibilities

This Senior Casualty Claim Adjuster role requires deep, proven casualty claim experience and is responsible for the oversight and direct handling of significantly high value and complex casualty claims, as well as providing guidance on large losses exceeding adjusters’ authority and collaborating with business leaders to grow a sustainably profitable book of business.

 

This role will be based in our Wilmington, DE or Phoenix, AZ office.  We offer a hybrid work schedule with 4 days in the office; and 1 day remote where it makes sense to do so.

We'll count on you to:

  • Develop and execute strategy to manage casualty claims of significantly high or complex nature, including operational models, workflows, KPI’s, service metrics, and processes that are responsive to customer needs and effectively and proactively resolve claims in the most expedient and efficient manner.
  • Be responsible for management and direct handling of certain high value and complex casualty claims.
  • Be responsible for oversight and strategy for large losses, unique and complex coverage questions, and collaboration on individual complex losses.
  • Be responsible for litigation management strategy including litigation handling best practices, panel counsel selection and vendor management, and litigation expense management strategies.
  • Serve as an expert on matters relating to broad industry trends and developments with potential to impact the book of business and share that knowledge up and across the organization.
  • Be responsible for identifying technical training needs of staff who handle large, high value and complex casualty claims and create and deliver technical training using a variety of internal, external, or vendor resources.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

What you need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years of casualty claims handling experience
  • 5+ years of claims litigation experience
  • Ability to travel (5%) as needed for large loss claim handling or litigation requirements, and to facilitate staff, vendor, insured, and broker relations.
  • Incredible empathy and understanding of the needs of customers, both insureds and their agents alike; serve as an excellent, proactive advocate for Berkley One customers and be passionate about their brand experience.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with a flexible communication style; communicate clearly and with a purpose.
  • Remain calm under pressure with excellent organizational and negotiation skills, integrity, and great follow-through on tasks; be comfortable challenging norms while working collaboratively with colleagues at all levels of the organization.
