Responsibilities

The Casualty Claims Supervisor is a key contributor to the Berkley One brand, supervising internal claims adjusters and overseeing Third-Party Administrator (TPA) operations and quality assurance. The role provides expert management and oversight of internal casualty claims adjusters and the TPA contracted network by managing processes, quality, and ensuring high-quality customer service.

We'll count on you to:

  • Manage claims adjusters, support staff, and administrative personnel to meet or exceed performance metrics. Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Manage, coach, and administer employee performance, compensation, and goal-setting processes for team members.

  • Lead the adjustment and management of auto, liability, and injury claims, ensuring superior customer service to Berkley One customers, agent partners, and internal and external business partners.

  • Provide direction and oversight for the adjustment of large or complex casualty claims.

  • Conduct thorough investigations, assess damages, and oversee the entire claims process for the TPA network from end-to-end, including coverage reviews, reserving, negotiation, and settlement.

  • Apply casualty claims expertise to make well-informed decisions and guide the effective resolution of claims.

  • Analyze and interpret insurance coverage and clearly communicate positions in accordance with Berkley One guidelines and under the direction of the Casualty Claims Manager.

  • Direct and manage assignments to external experts and legal counsel, ensuring efficiency and quality standards.

  • Evaluate detailed information regarding coverage, liability, and damages, and ensure fair settlements within the confines of the policy contract.

  • Set and adjust reserves within authority limits and recommend reserve changes as needed.

  • Travel as necessary for business-related activities.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

What you need to have:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in casualty claims management, including auto, homeowner, and injury claims.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience handling high-exposure and complex casualty claims.
  • Demonstrated capability in handling complex coverage issues and a deep understanding of insurance and legal principles.
  • Incredible empathy and understanding of the needs of customers, both insureds and their agents alike.
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent, proactive advocacy for Berkley One customers and passion for their brand experience.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a flexible communication style that adapts to the situation and the ability to communicate clearly and with purpose.
  • Calm under pressure, with excellent organizational and negotiation skills, high integrity, and strong follow-through on tasks.
  • Comfortable challenging norms while working collaboratively with colleagues at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong sense of accountability, fun, and adventure.
  • Natural curiosity, with a passion for continuous learning and looking for innovative improvements.
  • Collaborative approach, coordinating with adjusters and managers on pending claim files requiring additional investigation and confirmation of coverage.
  • Professional demeanor and ability to maintain composure in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to travel 5–10% 

What makes you stand out:  

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • People leadership experience is preferred
  • Background in property claims management is a plus but not a prerequisite for this role
  • TPA management experience, including management of contracts and practical application of service level agreements for quality assurance
  • Proficiency with high-net-worth policy coverages and services
  • Broad knowledge of CCC, ARMS, and Copart systems is preferred
