Role DescriptionForm Energy is hiring a Battery Engineer to join our Cell Package Integration team. As a Battery Engineer on our team, you will design and execute experiments that connect component-level changes to cell-level outcomes, investigate root causes of performance variation, and work closely with electrode, electrolyte, and manufacturing teams to identify and integrate cell improvements across cost, performance, and lifetime. This is a practical technical role for someone with solid electrochemical knowledge and a collaborative approach to cross-functional problem-solving. You'll be joining a team building something that has never been built before, with a clear shot at reshaping how the world stores energy with our breakthrough technology. The level of this position is flexible upwards based on experience.
Relocation assistance is available.
What you'll do:- Design, execute, and analyze cell-level experiments to characterize electrochemical performance, qualify cell package designs, and identify limiting factors or failure modes
- Champion safety as you carry out electrochemical testing in benchtop and lab-scale test vehicles in collaboration with the test execution team
- Investigate performance failures and degradation modes using root cause analysis methods, translating findings into corrective actions and design improvements
- Lead continuous improvement in our battery testing program - standardizing protocols and ensuring test procedures reflect the product-relevant operational space
- Conduct durability and entitlement testing on prototype cell packages to develop data-backed design specifications and inform DFMEAs
- Partner with electrode, electrolyte, and manufacturing teams to identify improvement opportunities, coordinate cell builds, and close performance gaps across cost, performance, and lifetime
What you'll bring:- Bachelor or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Materials Science, or a related field with 4+ years of relevant industry or research experience OR PhD with relevant industry or research experience
- Hands-on practical experience with electrochemical systems and electrochemical device data interpretation, particularly in deployed or market-ready products
- Expertise with failure prediction and investigation methods, such as Root Cause Analysis and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, including working with teams in different locations on shared objectives
- Statistical experimental design, such as fractional factorial designs, and linear regression analysis
