Help shape the rules that govern Florida's courts.The Florida Bar's court rules committees draft and propose amendments to the rules of procedure that govern practice in Florida's courts. As a Senior Bar Counsel - Rules, you will play a central role in that process, guiding proposed amendments from committee deliberation through the publication process, provide notice to the Board of Governors, and file the proposed amendments with the Supreme Court of Florida.
This position offers close collaboration with experienced practitioners and members of the judiciary who serve as volunteers on the committees, and specialized expertise in rulemaking and Supreme Court procedure that few attorneys develop.

What You Will Do- Finalize and file petitions, comments, and other pleadings with the Supreme Court of Florida, ensuring compliance with the Court's style guide and ADA accessibility requirements
- Manage the committees' docket of pending matters, help chairs and subcommittee chairs meet deadlines, and keep the department head informed of emerging issues
- Coordinate committee and subcommittee meetings, including agendas, minutes, and posting materials to committee web pages, and attend meetings to document the committees' business
- Maintain the official record of committee business, including agendas, minutes, and Supreme Court filings
- Monitor case law, legislative material, and publications relevant to the committees' subject areas, and keep posted rules current
- Track committee member attendance, evaluate committee members, and advise the President-elect on committee member and officer appointments
- Respond to questions from the public and Bar members about the rules committees
- Perform other duties as assigned
Who Should Apply- Juris Doctor and a member in good standing of The Florida Bar
- Senior Bar Counsel - Three years or more of legal experience as an attorney and four years of experience in legal writing, editing, research, or a related field.
- Bar Counsel - At least one year of legal experience as an attorney and four years of legal writing, editing, research, or related field.
- Knowledge of the Rules Regulating The Florida Bar, the rulemaking process, and Supreme Court guidelines
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with close attention to grammar, style, and detail
- Strong legal research skills
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat Pro
- Ability to organize work, set priorities, and exercise discretion and independent judgment
- Ability to build effective working relationships with committee leaders, practitioners, members of the judiciary, and a diverse group of colleagues
The position requires travel, extended computer and telephone work, and the ability to lift 5 to 10 lbs.
