Full Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for data analysis, sales/use and personal property tax, audit research, and acting as a control's liaison across the personal property tax and sales/use tax space, as well as various assigned projects. This role will assist with tax planning, audits, process improvement initiatives, and the implementation of indirect tax strategies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations. The position partners closely with Accounting, Finance, Procurement, Operations, and external advisors to support the organization's tax obligations and minimize tax risk.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Sales & Use Tax
  • Prepare, review, and file multi-state sales and use tax returns and related compliance filings.
  • Research taxability of transactions, products, and services across various jurisdictions.
  • Review accounts payable transactions to identify and accrue applicable use tax.
  • Maintain and validate sales tax exemption certificates and resale certificates.
  • Maintain sales and use tax rates, taxability mappings, and exemption settings within ERP and tax software systems.
  • Coordinate with IT, Procurement, and Accounts Payable teams to ensure transactions are coded appropriately for indirect tax purposes.
  • Validate tax determination results and investigate tax calculation errors.
  • Support testing and implementation of tax updates resulting from business or legislative changes.
  • Analyze tax accounts and prepare reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting.
  • Monitor changes in state and local tax laws and evaluate impacts on business operations.
  • Assist with sales and use tax audits, information requests, and audit defense activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve compliance processes and reduce tax exposures.

Property Tax
  • Manage annual personal property tax compliance and filings for multiple jurisdictions.
  • Compile and analyze fixed asset data for property tax reporting.
  • Coordinate with Fixed Asset, Accounting, and Operations teams to validate property records.
  • Assist with valuation analyses and assessment reviews.
  • Respond to taxing authority notices, inquiries, and audit requests.
  • Monitor assessment changes and identify opportunities for appeals and tax savings.
  • Maintain calendars and documentation related to filing deadlines and assessments.

Indirect Tax Operations
  • Support indirect tax accounting processes, including account reconciliations and journal entries.
  • Assist with tax technology initiatives, data analytics, and process automation projects.
  • Develop and maintain tax compliance procedures and internal controls.
  • Support tax planning initiatives and special projects related to indirect taxes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure tax implications are appropriately considered in business transactions and operational decisions.
  • Prepare presentations, analyses, and reports for tax leadership and management.
  • Ad hoc support where needed within the tax department.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required Skills/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or related field.
  • 3-6 years of experience in indirect tax, including sales and use tax compliance.
  • Knowledge of state and local tax regulations and tax research methodologies.
  • Experience supporting sales tax audits and responding to taxing authority requests.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • CPA, MST, CMI, or progress toward a professional certification.
  • Experience with property tax compliance and reporting.
  • Experience with tax technology solutions such as Vertex, Avalara, OneSource, PTMS, or similar systems.
  • Public accounting and/or large corporate tax department experience.
  • Experience with JDE, SAP, Oracle, Workday, or other ERP systems

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: 10%

US Salary Pay Range

$100,000-$130,000 USD
