As a Senior Android Engineer, you will join the small, high-impact team responsible for building Canada's top-rated banking app for Android. You will take a leading role in developing world-class digital experiences that millions of Canadians rely on every day, set the technical direction for how we build on the platform, and mentor other engineers as we shape the future of mobile development at Manulife.
Position Responsibilities:- Design, build, and maintain high-quality Android applications that deliver intuitive, secure, and reliable customer experiences.
- Take ownership of features from concept to delivery, ensuring solutions are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with customer needs.
- Contribute to architecture and technical decisions that support long-term platform growth and engineering excellence.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, backend engineers, and other stakeholders to deliver valuable customer outcomes.
- Mentor and support engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing.
- Use feature flags, experimentation, and customer feedback to safely release and continuously improve mobile experiences.
- Explore emerging technologies and innovative approaches that enhance our products and development practices.
- Improve application reliability, performance, security, monitoring, and deployment automation.
- Contribute to shared tools, frameworks, and engineering practices that benefit mobile development teams across Manulife.
- Utilize tools such as GitHub, GitHub Actions, Jira, Confluence, and Microsoft Teams to collaborate and deliver effectively.
Required Qualifications:- Experience building, shipping, and maintaining production Android applications using Kotlin and/or Java.
- Strong knowledge of modern Android development practices, including application architecture patterns such as MVVM.
- Experience creating scalable, maintainable, and testable software solutions.
- Knowledge of modern dependency injection approaches and modular application design.
- Experience working with RESTful APIs and collaborating with backend engineering teams.
- Understanding of secure authentication and authorization practices, including OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect (OIDC).
- A commitment to software quality through testing, automation, performance optimization, and security best practices.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
- Experience guiding technical decisions, influencing engineering practices, or mentoring other developers.
- Curiosity, adaptability, and a growth mindset with a passion for continuous learning and improvement.
Preferred Qualifications:- Jetpack Compose and modern Android UI frameworks.
- Reactive programming approaches such as Kotlin Flow or RxJava.
- Mobile accessibility, inclusive design, and accessibility testing practices.
- Mobile applications operating within regulated industries such as financial services, healthcare, or payments.
- Mobile authentication technologies such as biometrics, passkeys, and multi-factor authentication.
- Automated testing frameworks such as JUnit, Espresso, or Appium.
- Application monitoring, observability, and code quality tools such as New Relic, SonarQube, or Snyk.
- AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot.

Salary range is expected to be between$113,000.00 CAD - $163,000.00 CAD
