Job Description

Designs, develops, implements, and maintains custom system software and supports the installation and maintenance of purchased systems software including the configuration of associated hardware systems. In collaboration with department leadership and Information Technology, participates in proposal development that consider alternatives to existing software systems, to reduce costs or improve operational efficiency. Responds to user-initiated requests for improvements in existing custom software systems. Produces and maintains documentation such as system requirements, designs, resource inventories, and user documentation for custom software. Utilizes code control and other software development practices to ensure quality and continuity. Provides technical and project leadership to other staff members, demonstrates initiative, and works as a team member as well as independently as needed to accomplish responsibilities. May interface with vendor support service groups or other external support teams to ensure proper escalation during outages or periods of degraded system performance. Acts as a liaison to Mayo departments and vendors to adequately support the department's computing systems. May be required to provide 24/7 on-call support for custom software systems.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science or related scientific discipline and 3 years of experience, including 1 year demonstrated technical experience. Advanced degree in a scientific discipline (Masters or higher) highly desired.

Additional Qualifications

Applies effective system design principles and software development methodologies to scientific computing problems in radiation therapy. Understands principles guiding numerical modeling of physical and biological processes. Has experience working with large relational databases, analyzing their structure and mapping on end-user tools. Experience with Python, C#, C++ CUDA, custom built search engines and web-based development technologies would be a definite advantage. Demonstrated experience with applications of DICOM objects in radiation therapy highly desired. Experience building Artificial Intelligence (AI) models for healthcare applications would be very valuable. Experience with Linux operating system (in addition to MS Windows) would be helpful. Demonstrated ability to multi-task among multiple, complex assigned tasks/projects. Evidence of communication, meeting management, and organizational skills and ability to adjust the message as appropriate to the audiences of varying technical capabilities. Demonstrated ability to meet project deliverables and timelines and repeatable and reliable performance. Evidence of the ability to take initiative and being proactive on starting tasks and assignments and ability to work independently. Experience working within the IT environment of a large healthcare institution would be very helpful.
