Full Job Description
POSITION: Senior Accountant

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Accountant will play a pivotal role in supporting full-cycle accounting across Heelstone's development pipeline and operating portfolio of utility-scale solar, wind, and battery storage projects. The role encompasses diverse accounting workstreams and requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams throughout the project lifecycle. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Senior Accountant will interface with the Development, EPC, Asset Management, Operations, Offtake, Project Finance, Corporate Finance, and Legal teams

to support Company objectives and deliver accurate, timely financial information. This is a full-time position based in Durham, NC.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Reporting and Close
  • Execute month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes across the corporate and tax equity structures.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting workpapers.
  • Maintain general ledger integrity across consolidated and project-level entities.
  • Maintain consolidation workpapers and prepare elimination journal entries for intercompany
  • receivables/payables, revenue, and expenses across a multi-entity organizational structure.
  • Assist in preparation of financial statements, lender reporting packages, Board materials, and other deliverables distributed to external stakeholders and leadership.
  • Prepare ad hoc reporting and analysis under tight deadlines.


Project Accounting
  • Track project costs during development and construction phases ensuring proper capitalization and expense determinations in accordance with Company policy.
  • Support transfers from construction-in-progress to placed-in-service, including coordination of placed-in-service dates, depreciation commencement, and fixed asset record establishment.
  • Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation across the operating portfolio.
  • Create and maintain lease amortization schedules in accordance with ASC 842.
  • Create and maintain debt amortization schedules.
  • Coordinate with operational teams to execute construction loan draw requests, tax equity and debt financing closings, and project distributions.


Accounting Policies and Processes
  • Research and interpret accounting guidance as transactions and structures require.
  • Assist in reviewing current accounting procedures to identify process improvements that deliver timely, accurate results to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical accounting memos to analyze and document accounting treatment for scenarios common and unique to the renewable energy industry.
  • Ensure consistent application of GAAP across all accounting records.
  • Ensure the system of internal controls is applied consistently and in accordance with Company policies.

SKILLS AND PERSONAL QUALITIES
  • Proficient in MS Office including, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Proficient in Sage Intacct preferred.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and internal control compliance.
  • Familiarity with consolidation accounting and intercompany eliminations across a multi-entity
  • structure.
  • Self-starter who operates well in an entrepreneurial and collaborative environment
  • Strong sense of accountability, taking ownership over projects and responsibilities and resolving issues proactively
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously and deliver accurate results under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Strong organization and management skills


EDUCATION/PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting; Master's degree a plus
