POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Accountant, Corporate Finance is a key contributor to the quarterly close and financial reporting process, with primary responsibility for balance sheet accounting, analysis, and related reporting activities, while supporting income statement close processes. This role requires a strong technical accounting foundation, sound analytical judgment, and the ability to identify, interpret, and communicate the key drivers behind financial results.

This position offers broad exposure to the Company's divisions and operations and plays an integral role in ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. The Senior Accountant supports the close process, performs financial analysis, and drives process improvements that enhance reporting quality, efficiency, and internal controls.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Close, Reporting & Business Partnership
  • Own balance sheet quarterly close activities, including leading balance sheet review meetings with finance teams to discuss account activity and key trends
  • Prepare flux analyses of balance sheet and cash flow statements, maintain financial reporting metrics, and provide insight into noteworthy trends to support informed management decision-making
  • Monitor balance sheet activity, including accruals submitted by finance teams, and follow up on unusual activity or potential risk areas
  • Perform premium receivable aging analyses by business division, monitor bad debt reserves, and calculate Current Expected Credit Losses (CECL) reserves in accordance with accounting policy
  • Perform excess ceding commission and deferred ceding commission calculations
  • Support income statement quarterly close activities by collaborating with other members of the Corporate Finance team to facilitate a timely and accurate close
  • Prepare and maintain quarterly close calendars in coordination with Business Unit Finance, IT, and Actuarial
  • Assist in research of accounting literature to support compliance with U.S. GAAP and internal accounting policies
  • Support adherence to internal controls and maintain awareness of potential risk areas
  • Respond to ad hoc financial reporting requests from Corporate Finance leadership and business partners
  • Develop strong partnerships with business unit finance teams, operational leaders, and cross-functional stakeholders to support informed business decisions


Process Improvement, Systems & Projects
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting and reporting processes, including the use of technology, data analytics, and automation to enhance efficiency
  • Coordinate accounting projects, finance initiatives, and special projects with Corporate Finance, business unit finance teams, and other departments, as needed


COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and financial statement analysis.
  • Proven ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, investigate variances, and communicate the key drivers of financial results.
  • Strong balance sheet accounting and reconciliation skills, with the ability to identify and assess potential financial reporting risks.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and analysis of large datasets.
  • Experience leveraging financial systems, reporting tools, data analytics, and large datasets to improve reporting, streamline processes, and drive continuous improvement; experience with Workday, TM1, or OneStream is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills, with the ability to build effective partnerships across Finance and cross-functional teams.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced close environment.
  • Demonstrated integrity, accountability, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently while managing stakeholder expectations.
  • Adaptable, proactive, and solutions-oriented, with a commitment to continuous learning, teamwork, and process improvement.


EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/CREDENTIALS
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
  • CPA or other recognized accounting or finance qualification, or active pursuit of one, is a plus
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting, finance, financial reporting, or a related field
  • Experience in a property and casualty insurance organization is preferred
  • Current or recent public company financial reporting experience is a plus
  • Prior experience with financial systems, reporting tools, data analytics, or process automation preferred


For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.

Jersey City, New York: 79,900.00 - 124,085.00
Hartford: 71,900.00 - 111,676.50
  • Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
