Position Objective

Job Summary:

Our Security Directors support Harvard Protection in our goal of providing best in class security and life safety services. Our Directors are responsible for providing professional customer-focused security and life safety services for the people and the property they protect and our employees that they lead. Directors are responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the single customer account(s) they are assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure quality services are provided to meet customer expectations and contract requirements by regularly managing, directing, inspecting, training, coaching, mentoring, and leading security personnel assigned to the facility/building
  • Perform operations related functions to include; scheduling, overtime management, review of daily logs and incident reports, training and development of staff
  • Monitor and develop staff performance to include supervision, performance evaluations, disciplinary matters, training, scheduling, callouts, and assigning work
  • Lead, supervise, and coach security and fire safety teams to ensure compliance with all directives, regulations, and client-specific protocols.
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, train, and evaluate staff, fostering a culture of accountability, professionalism, and service excellence.
  • Oversee and ensure team participation in hospitality training programs, including initial onboarding and ongoing refresher sessions focused on dynamic guest engagement, professionalism, and situational awareness. Ensure all security protocols support a welcoming, guest-friendly environment, including the handling of sensitive situations through a hospitality lens.
  • Train and qualify staff as Fire Life Safety Directors (FLSDs) and Building Evacuation Supervisors in accordance with FDNY, DOB, and client hospitality standards.
  • Oversee all fire and life safety systems, including fire alarms, sprinklers, and standpipe systems, ensuring inspections, testing, maintenance, and documentation are completed accurately and on time.
  • Ensure full compliance with FDNY and DOB codes; address violations, deficiencies, and system impairments promptly.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with FDNY, NYPD, vendors, legal counsel, and property management.
  • Coordinate and oversee vendor and contractor performance related to fire safety and security systems.
  • Manage security technology systems, including access control, CCTV, and reporting platforms.
  • Enhance Client Relationships: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring high-quality service that protects people and property.
  • Act as a strategic advisor to executive stakeholders, presenting security insights in business language.
  • Participate in, and ensure total team participation in all hospitality training initiatives, partnering with Director of Hospitality on team specific feedback and training needs.
  • Maintain up to date and accurate timekeeping systems and records for staff
  • Provide recommendations for positive and negative personnel actions for those staff members under his/her direct supervision
  • Provide immediate response to emergencies and issues that arise
  • Follow and coordinate established emergency response, action planning and procedures
  • Maintain 24 / 7 availability and to the customer account(s) assigned
  • Oversee the Business Continuity Program, while working in collaboration with all teams to ensure support of business continuity requirements for the company and customer account(s)
  • Management of compliance and regulatory matters
  • Initiate preliminary investigations into incidents
  • Prepare reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities, as required
  • Prepare required weekly, bi-weekly and monthly manager reports
  • Facilitate training as required per the contractual agreement; to include CPR/First Aid/AED, additional state, local certifications
  • Assist to lead in the procurement process and maintenance of uniforms and equipment
  • Maintain professional working relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • State or municipality mandated security officer licenses
  • Candidates should possess some of the following verifiable experiences;
    • Fire Life & Safety experience
    • Criminal Justice degree or law enforcement related degree
    • 3-5 years civilian law enforcement, or private or corporate security experience or military experience with a favorable discharge
  • Must have experience working in Class-A hospitality environments and buildings
  • Experience working in commercial, high-rise, or complex properties
  • Strong client-facing and vendor management experience
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize and problem solve
  • Good computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Additional knowledge within a computerized scheduling operating system is helpful
