Job DescriptionAssure regulatory compliance and provide other environmental support at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) and other Nevada locations operated by MSTS. Support the national security and other missions at the NNSS by reviewing planning and operational documents and providing input to ensure environmental requirements are incorporated, and environmental impact is minimized.
Key Responsibilities- Contributes to solutions of problems and issues with well-defined scope and moderate complexity, utilizing a well-defined set of technologies. Solutions use established standards, practices and procedures as well as technical knowledge to address problems and complete tasks. Solutions may require evaluation of standards and processes.
- Serve as internal subject matter expert for Solid Waste and Spill Reporting.
- Conducts field inspections of facilities to ascertain compliance with primarily solid waste and issued permits, but also waste generation, wastewater, drinking water, chemical management, and other environmental regulations as assigned.
- Conduct management assessments of environmental programs to verify compliance and identify environmental deficiencies and track them to resolution and closure.
- Collect information, review analytical reports and perform necessary calculations for permit reports and other permit deliverables.
- Prepare routine and non-routine reports.
- Develop and revise company documents associated with environmental protection programs.
- Prepare and review permit modifications.
- Interact with operational and other personnel and regulatory authorities.
- Evaluate analytical and other data for adherence to established limits.
- Collect and analyze environmental data from company-wide sources.
- Collaborate on environmental programs with senior staff, as assigned by the manager with emphasis in the areas of Solid Waste, Wastewater and Spill Reporting, but not limited to other areas assigned by the Environmental Compliance manager.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in a calculus-based (STEM) field, plus at least 2 years' relevant experience. Skill building experience must demonstrate either deeper technical specialization or additional cross-disciplinary knowledge. Graduate research experience may be recognized.

- Ability to work outside in all types of weather and in hazardous conditions.
- Ability to use judgement and follow oral and written instructions in completion of assigned tasks.
- Ability to plan and organize work to ensure all assignments are completed within the required time frame.
- Skill to read and understand scientific and technical documents and regulations.
- Ability to write permit and regulatory reports based on scientific data and other information collected in the field and from other sources.
- The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada).
- Work schedule will be 4/10s Monday through Thursday (subject to change).
- Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
Annual salary range for this position is:
$83,075.20 - $124,612.80.Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
