Job Summary
The Senior Rust Engineer will design, develop, test, and maintain high-performance backend services supporting an automated vehicle marshalling platform. The role focuses on building low-latency Rust microservices, real-time data ingestion pipelines, event-driven services, secure APIs, and operational workflows that support vehicle movement and manufacturing operations. The engineer will contribute to architecture, scalability, security, reliability, automated testing, and distributed-system troubleshooting while collaborating with cross-functional engineering and product teams.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, test, and maintain high-performance backend services using Rust.
• Build low-latency microservices and data ingestion pipelines that interact with vehicle marshalling and plant systems.
• Develop event-driven services for vehicle telemetry, mission data, system-state updates, and operational alerts.
• Implement scalable streaming communication using Server-Sent Events and change-stream-driven updates.
• Apply asynchronous and concurrent programming techniques to real-time, high-throughput workloads.
• Design secure APIs and streaming interfaces for frontend applications and operational tools.
• Develop backend workflows for emergency stop, authorized resumption, global start, and orderly shutdown operations.
• Build services supporting vehicle status, station conditions, build history, and marshalling completion workflows.
• Implement authentication, authorization, role-based access control, secure session handling, and secrets management.
• Design systems for fault tolerance, observability, recoverability, and operational resilience.
• Troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, concurrency issues, integration failures, and distributed-system behavior.
• Develop unit, integration, component, and performance tests for backend services.
• Participate in architecture discussions, backlog refinement, estimation, code reviews, and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with frontend, software engineering, quality engineering, delivery, and client stakeholders.
• Provide technical guidance to other engineers while remaining actively involved in hands-on development.
Required Qualifications
• Senior-level experience designing and delivering production backend systems.
• Strong professional experience developing production applications with Rust.
• Advanced knowledge of Rust concepts including ownership, borrowing, lifetimes, traits, memory safety, concurrency, and error handling.
• Experience with asynchronous Rust and event-driven architectures.
• Experience designing scalable microservices and distributed systems.
• Strong understanding of concurrency, messaging, streaming, and real-time communication patterns.
• Experience designing secure REST APIs and streaming interfaces.
• Experience building low-latency, high-throughput ingestion or telemetry-processing services.
• Knowledge of authentication, authorization, role-based access control, secrets management, and secure session handling.
• Experience implementing logging, metrics, distributed tracing, health checks, retries, timeouts, and failure recovery.
• Strong automated testing and performance-testing practices.
• Ability to investigate complex issues across application, API, database, network, and distributed-system layers.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with Server-Sent Events, WebSockets, or similar real-time communication technologies.
• Experience with MongoDB, including MongoDB Change Streams.
• Experience integrating software with manufacturing, industrial, robotics, vehicle-control, or operational technology systems.
• Experience with vehicle orchestration, routing, mission management, or state-machine-driven workflows.
• Familiarity with ADFS or comparable identity-federation technologies.
• Experience building software for safety-sensitive or operationally critical environments.
• Familiarity with HLS, WebRTC, or secure video-streaming technologies.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated quality gates, static analysis, dependency scanning, and security testing.
• Exposure to industrial cybersecurity practices.
• Experience working within Agile product and engineering teams.
