Position summary Provides support to the Nurse Manager for the managerial and leadership aspects of a specific clinical area or department. Develops, coordinates, enhances and executes the Stroke Program. Promotes staff proficiency in the care of patients with a diagnosis of stroke. Develops interdisciplinary strategies for providing a coordinated care program for stroke patients. Provides direct care to patients in the role of Stroke Coordinator.

Leadership Responsibilities - Participates in the development of both long- and short-range goals for the Stroke Program and department that are consistent with goals and objectives of the hospital
- Assists with the integration of the clinical, service, administrative and educational aspects of the department.
- Assists management with educating and monitoring staff regarding their own and the organizations responsibilities for regulatory compliance. Identifies deficiencies and assists in correcting deficiencies.
- Assists in mentoring new staff and facilitates their integration into the hospital/unit
- Support and assist with action plans to improve patient, physician and employee satisfaction
- Performs as preceptor for staff as needed
- Participates in and supports continuous quality improvement and risk management programs at the unit level
- Demonstrates the ability to prioritize and adjust and adapt to changing situations
- Promotes collaboration with other departments and physicians
- Exhibits effective leadership skills through planning, organizing, directing and coordinating departmental functions in collaboration with Nurse Manager.
- Facilitates the development, implementation and evaluation of interdisciplinary Stroke Program, including the revision of specific policies, procedures, standard practices and protocols.
- Coordinates the quarterly meetings of the Stroke Committee
Unit Responsibilities - Assist the Manager in ensuring employee compliance with Stroke Care within the hospital
- Integrates the clinical, service, administrative, and education aspects of care of stroke patients within the hospital
- Coordinates, develops and maintains a concurrent system of performance improvement for the stroke service line and subsequent educational activities for monitoring standards of medical and nursing practice and care
- Collaborates with hospital and physician representatives to develop and/or revise protocols/guidelines for managing care of the stroke patient
- Acts as a consultant and resource person for patient issues and/or concerns along the continuum of care for the purposes of performance improvement and service excellence
- Manages data related to stroke operations including collection, documentation, data maintenance and dissemination
- Develops, coordinates, implements and revises educational programs for the nursing staff
- Participates in the coordination of clinical management, support services and discharges planning amoung health care provided for patients and their families
- Accepts assignments of related jobs when needed due to absences, vacancies or workload
- Makes rounds, on a regular basis, to assess and address concerns
- Makes recommendations for hospital equipment and environmental safety requirements as they apply to the stroke patient population

Qualifications Education/Qualification- BSN Required
- Professional experience that demonstrates a progressive leadership background
- Certification in Neuroscience (CNRN)preferred
