Registered Nurse Clinical Manager to lead clinical operations at the
Hamilton County Juvenile Justice Center.
In this role, you will serve as the primary nursing leader for a unique and highly specialized healthcare environment. You will lead a team of approximately
12 nursing staff and partner closely with Hamilton County, physicians, advanced practice providers, social workers, mental health professionals, and other multidisciplinary partners to ensure youth receive safe, timely, equitable, and compassionate healthcare.
This position combines
clinical leadership, staff development, operational management, quality improvement, and care coordination while supporting the unique medical, behavioral, developmental, and psychosocial needs of youth involved in the juvenile justice system.
What You'll DoClinical Leadership & Staff Management- Provide day-to-day leadership and oversight for nursing staff and clinical operations.
- Establish clear expectations and promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, respect, and professional growth.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, performance feedback, and development opportunities for nursing staff.
- Support staff in managing complex clinical situations and provide clinical guidance when needed.
- Promote effective communication and collaboration across nursing shifts and multidisciplinary teams.
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, competency assessment, performance management, and staff development activities.
- Navigate challenging situations and conflict effectively while maintaining strong working relationships with internal and external partners.
- Serve as an accessible and visible leader who can make sound, timely decisions in a complex clinical environment.
Clinical Operations- Oversee daily nursing operations to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.
- Monitor staffing, workflow, resources, and clinical priorities to ensure the healthcare needs of youth within the facility are met safely and efficiently.
- Ensure nursing staff effectively manage intakes, medication administration, sick calls, medication and supply ordering, and coordination of medical appointments.
- Establish and maintain processes that support timely assessment, treatment, follow-up, and continuity of care.
- Provide occasional direct clinical coverage based on operational and staffing needs.
- Identify operational challenges and develop practical solutions to improve care delivery and staff efficiency.
- Lead and support change initiatives and process improvements that enhance patient care, safety, and team effectiveness.
Quality & Regulatory Compliance- Ensure clinical practices are consistent with Cincinnati Children's policies, evidence-based standards, and applicable healthcare regulations.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing healthcare delivery within a juvenile justice environment.
- Monitor quality and safety indicators and implement improvement strategies when opportunities are identified.
- Promote accurate clinical documentation and appropriate medication management practices.
- Participate in audits, regulatory reviews, quality initiatives, and accreditation activities as appropriate.
- Identify and address patient safety concerns and escalate issues through appropriate channels.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration- Partner closely with Hamilton County to support the healthcare needs and safety of youth in the facility.
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, social workers, mental health professionals, educators, and other members of the care team.
- Facilitate communication among healthcare providers, nursing staff, facility personnel, and community healthcare partners.
- Support coordinated care plans that address the physical, behavioral health, developmental, and psychosocial needs of youth.
- Coordinate referrals, specialty appointments, hospital care, and follow-up services as needed.
- Work collaboratively with Hamilton County staff responsible for maintaining safety and security within the facility.
- Build and maintain productive partnerships while effectively navigating differing clinical and operational priorities.
A Unique PartnershipCincinnati Children's healthcare team works in partnership with
Hamilton County to provide healthcare services within the Juvenile Justice Center. Hamilton County personnel are present to provide security and protection for employees and maintain the safety of the facility.
The RN Clinical Manager plays an important role in balancing the clinical needs of youth with the operational and security requirements of the juvenile justice environment. Success in this role requires sound clinical judgment, strong communication and relationship-building skills, professionalism, flexibility, and the ability to make independent decisions while maintaining effective partnerships.
What We're Looking ForRequired:- Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Ohio.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Demonstrated professional nursing experience with progressive leadership responsibilities.
- Strong clinical judgment and critical-thinking skills.
- Experience with staff supervision, coaching, and performance management.
- Excellent organizational, communication, conflict-resolution, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and make sound decisions in a complex clinical environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to providing compassionate, respectful, equitable, and trauma-informed care to youth and families.
- Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
Preferred:- Pediatric or adolescent nursing experience.
- Experience in behavioral health, juvenile justice, correctional healthcare, emergency care, or other complex care environments.
- Previous nurse manager or clinical leadership experience.
- Experience with quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and clinical operations.
- Experience leading change, process improvement, or operational improvement initiatives.
- Experience caring for adolescents with complex medical, behavioral, or psychosocial needs.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES- Leadership - The Clinical Manager will provide programmatic leadership of the clinical component in their assigned areas to ensure quality patient care outcomes. The Manager in collaboration with Clinical Director will develop and implement goals, standards, policies, educational programs, procedures and practices in alignment with the strategic plan. Situations that affect daily operations will be monitored and appropriate actions taken. The Clinical Manager will participate in the development, coaching, and evaluation of department personnel. Mentor and provide learning and development opportunities for direct reports. The Clinical Manager will establish workforce communication and approaches that will represent our Core Values and cultural competence. Staff competence will be ensured through appropriate training and practice oversight. Demonstrates consistent integration of the Interprofessional Practice Model (IPM) in all aspects of practice. The Clinical Manager will ensure that shared governance and shared decision making are integrated with leadership practices. Demonstrate skill with interpersonal communication along with presentations, written materials and through group facilitation. Holds self and other accountable for mutual professional expectations and outcomes.
- Compliance - Managers will maintain knowledge of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Consistently assure quality and adherence to standards by utilizing auditing and quality assurance approaches. Managers will follow the guidance of their Directors in the development and implementation of corrective action plans. Partner with department leaders of Center for Professional Excellence (CPE) and Accreditation Services to improve staff performance, compliance and documentation. Assure all reporting staff have required competence, education and their clinical performance represents standards of compliance. Enhance relationships to promote interdisciplinary involvement and knowledge of compliance standards, status, and actions. Managers facilitate the knowledge and actions of their employees with appropriate policies and standards of performance.
- Operations - Serve as a point of contact and resource for the daily operations. Research and resolve operational questions and problems as they arise. Serve as a resource to staff in the resolution of complex issues and concerns. Provide oversight and guidance in the day to day patient staffing. Evaluate and adjust resource allocation based on patient needs and system factors. Establish and maintain procedures for orientation of new employees. Assure integration of annual operational goals into daily practice. Address problem trends, develop, plan and implement solutions to improve processes and work flow for both individuals and systems for which teams work. Provide oversight and evaluation of clinical practices, patient outcomes and all practices associated with safety and quality patient care. The Clinical Manager will be competent to support patient care delivery for their area as needed.
- Project Management - Provide leadership for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, and completion of specific projects. Assure alignment of developing projects with organizational priorities and strategic plan. Develop project plans resource allocation, and timeline. Manage the day-to-day operational aspects of a project and scope. May direct assigned project team ensuring effective utilization of resources. Reports on progress of the project to all stakeholders. Provides detailed organizational communication plans when clinical operations are impacted. Integrate principles of inclusion throughout projects and daily operations.
- Financial Management - Engage with the day to operations that impact productivity. Conduct analysis, partner with others in decisions around resource allocation and recognize the impact of decisions on productivity. In collaboration with director; develop, implement and evaluate the department's annual operating and capital budget to achieve the organizational and departmental objectives. Analyze and monitor financial performance and assist in the reporting of financial results. Evaluate variances, determine underlying causes, and establish proposed solutions.
Provides clinical practice leadership for the operation of specified patient services departments dedicated to the care of infants, children and adolescents. Provide direct support and oversight of clinical practice, coordination of patient care delivery, coaching and development of staff, and manage the work environment.
