Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, this role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and auditability of HCHB's revenue and for providing authoritative guidance on technical accounting matters that arise from our SaaS business model.

The ideal candidate is a technically rigorous, business-oriented accounting professional who can translate complex contract structures into clear accounting positions, partner cross-functionally with Legal, Sales, and FP&A, and build scalable processes in a growth-stage software company. This is a newly created, high-visibility role with significant opportunity to shape the function.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Revenue Recognition (ASC 606)
  • Own end-to-end revenue recognition under ASC 606 for all customer contracts, including SaaS subscriptions, implementation fees, professional services, and funded development arrangements.
  • Analyze multi-element arrangements and determine stand-alone selling prices, performance obligations, and transaction price allocation across contract types.
  • Review contract modifications, variable consideration, and non-standard deal terms for revenue accounting implications prior to execution.
  • Maintain and update HCHB's revenue recognition policy documentation and accounting position memos.
  • Partner with Legal and Sales on new contract structures and customer-specific arrangements, providing proactive guidance on revenue impact

2. Technical Accounting & Research
  • Serve as the primary technical accounting resource for the organization, researching and documenting positions on complex or emerging issues under US GAAP.
  • Assess applicability of ASC 350-40 (internal-use software) and related guidance for software development costs, including co-development and funded development arrangements.
  • Prepare and maintain accounting position memos on significant transactions, estimates, and non-routine items.
  • Support external audit on revenue, capitalized software, and other technical accounting areas, ensuring workpapers are audit-ready

3. Billing & Systems Alignment (Zuora / Oracle)
  • Own the alignment between Zuora billing, Zuora revenue, and the Oracle Fusion GL ensuring accuracy and completeness through the monthly close.
  • Partner with O2C Operations on billing accuracy, contract-to-invoice matching, and deferred revenue tracking.

  • Identify and resolve discrepancies between executed contracts, Zuora billing configurations, and revenue schedules.
  • Drive improvements to Zuora revenue module configuration and billing process controls in coordination with systems and operations teams.

4. Month-End Close & Reporting
  • Lead all revenue-related month-end close activities, including deferred revenue, unbilled AR, contract asset/liability reconciliations, and contra-revenue entries.
  • Prepare revenue flux analysis and variance commentary for internal management reporting and Hearst reporting packages.
  • Maintain supporting schedules and workpapers at audit-ready quality on a monthly basis

5. Cross-Functional Partnership
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to Legal, Sales, FP&A, and Operations on deal structure, contract terms, and their accounting implications.
  • Collaborate with the Controller on development of accounting policies, internal controls, and close process improvements.
  • Support due diligence, integration, or special projects as needed in connection with Hearst corporate initiatives.

6. Continuous Improvement & Leadership
  • Lead initiatives to automate and modernize revenue and order to cash processes across the organization.
  • Build and mentor a high-performing OTC team focused on accuracy, customer service, and continuous improvement.
  • Foster strong relationships across Accounting, Procurement, FP&A, and Hearst Shared Services teams.
  • Champion a culture of accountability, operational excellence, and service delivery.

  • Prior experience with ASC 350-40 (internal-use software capitalization) analysis, including funded or co-development arrangements, preferred.
